It's a recharge - I've done them at least 8 times on multiple vehicles without issue. It's not a miracle cure thing, it's simply adding more of a substance that's already present in the system, like topping off the coolant in your expansion tank.

guess if you continued to add oil to the engine leaking/burning oil for the life of an engine there's no issue either, nothing to be repaired here, move along

except its completely not.
you only add freon if you know everything else is working perfectly. what was the high side reading on your gauge setup which tells you the most about the workings of the system. is your consenser out front completely covered in bugs and debris, is the shroud on your radiator properly sealed to prevent escaping airflow.
