You do realize the Saudis, Qataris, etc are the ones that funded these POS to begin with right? They, along with the US and other Western powers, are the reason ISIS even exists at the levels it does now.

It's a plan that has majorly backfired, but they aren't touching the Gulf countries until they can support themselves. They need Gulf money and weapons from the UAE black market to maintain their strength.

They've looted enough from Syrian and Iraqi army depots to last them decades, and I'm not talking about American-made equipment that we sold to Iraq that will be virtually useless to them in a few months - they have neither the logistical capability nor the know-how to keep the higher-end American stuff, like helicopters, artillery, and virtually all vehicles, functioning. They can capture enough at a place like al Taqba, for instance, to last them years. I am assuming that they have some former Syrian and Iraqi soldiers who have the logistical knowledge to keep Soviet-made crap functioning.

Kerry is going to say all the things to keep his lib/prog base from rioting, but with the exception of Iraq/Kurds and Syrians Arabs are NOT going to commit large scale troops to this.

Write that down.

Rod Dreher, a conservative who I often disagree with, summed up how I feel about ISIS.

quote:

The Iranians must wake up every morning and thank Allah that they have an enemy like the United States, which installed their clients in Baghdad, and who is now going to fight their insane Sunni enemy for them. And by the way, what about the regime in Saudi Arabia (the one that just arrested a bunch of Christians for meeting to pray)? Americans are risking their lives again to make the world safe for the lunatic Islamic country whose sons brought down the World Trade Center and destroyed part of the Pentagon. Once again, people who do not have our best interests in mind are willing to hold our coat while we do the fighting for them.

Fareed Zakaria also put things in perpesctive.

But let’s make sure in executing this strategy that we learn something from the 13 years since Sept. 11, 2001, and the war against al-Qaeda. Here are a few lessons to think about.

Don’t always take the bait. In one of his videotaped speeches to his followers, Osama bin Laden outlined his strategy. “All that we have to do is to send two mujahideen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al-Qaeda,” he said, “in order to make [American] generals race there.”

The purpose of the gruesome execution videos was to provoke the United States. And it worked. After all, nothing has changed about the self-proclaimed Islamic State, and the dangers it poses, in the past month — other than the appearance of these videos. Yet they moved Washington to action. The scholar Fawaz Gerges writes that a few months ago Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi noted that his organization was not ready to attack the United States but “he wished the U.S. would deploy boots on the ground so that IS could directly engage the Americans — and kill them.”

I can't tell what the heck is going on over there. I suspect Obama's new push is as much about taking out Assad as it is ISIS. And then knows WTF happens when Assad goes?
If Assad goes, Syria would be known as IS. Haven't we learned by now to LEAVE Dictators in place over there??? WTF is so hard to understand? They cannot live peacefully in a free country. Democracy doesn't solve tribal feuds.

This.

Even long before Arabs reconciled co-existence with Israel with the unveiling of the 2002 Saudi Peace Plan, Arabs never aimed to "destroy Jews", that was a White folks thing that was prevalent in Europe. Rather their aim in 1948 was to undo the Balfour transgression, nothing more.
