Are lightning delays a new phenomenon for football?

I feel like 5-10 years ago they would have rolled them out and played. Am I wrong?

The 1994 Alabama-Ole Miss game had lightning striking just outside the stadium before they put it into a weather delay.

Monitoring of lighting has improved in the last decade with new technology coming out. I think it's always been at the official's discretion, they just monitor it differently now.
