There will be more bluewings ....... at least for awhile. We're banking on it, and will have crews there collecting avian flu samples from birds killed.

See you at Petos Larry!

I won't make it there. I'll be pestering folks a little further south, where we didn't count any birds.

All I know is that last year we were shooting Teal in our beaver ponds for the first time ever.

I see high hopes for NELA in that article.

I've received no reports from NE LA beyond Catahoula Lake, which is normal for September. I just overheard Secretary Barham tell some folks that Wham Brake has a lot of teal, but I've no context to what that means or how normal that might be.

Just going off of instinct and what you have seen so far, do you think NWLA will be decent?

I got an e-mail yesterday saying, "My friends state AS OF YESTERDAY Bluewings on the Red River, Cross Lake, and others where the water is shallow......should be a decent opener."

Personally, I try to not have expectations; they mostly increase the probability of disappointment and decrease the probability of pleasant surprises.

We have been seeing birds moving around in Rayne area, but we always do in the rice fields. I don't care if I only shoot 1! It is better than sitting on my arse at home. Also, it helps get the dog ready for big duck season.

I like to shoot them, but I like to work them even more.

Please keep a eye out for gators. Myself, I never use a dog in teal season.

Believe it or not, we did actually have a few two years ago. They were limited to 1 field that backed up to a swampy area. But we never see them in the hunting fields. But I never bring my dog to the marsh. I don't care what time of year it is. I have heard too many tragic stories. My dog is my family pet first, hunting buddy second, bird retrieval system 3rd.
