and another thing... what was so bad about the Kent State sign? That referenced an event 44 years ago. What is wrong with a little humor around such events that long ago?

I've heard a couple good JFK jokes (relating to the assassination).

One of the funniest jokes I've ever heard was "Ok, so other than that Mrs. Lincoln... what did you think of the play?"

Heck, Hogan's Heroes was broadcast in the mid-1960s, about 20 years after World War II ended. And the subject matter of that sit-com was close to (not directly, but close to) the activities of the regime that committed The Holocaust... in POW camps that surely had similarities to concentration camps!

And finally, I bet plenty of you guys chuckle regularly at one of the most popular shows on TV today. A Sunday evening animated show that has:
- had no less than FOUR tasteless jokes/references/skits about September 11th, 2001
- joked about Elizabeth Smart (a 14 year old raped 3-4 times daily for almost a year)
- has made fun of Natalee Holloway's mom (the Alabama teen murdered in Aruba)
- mocked Ron Goldman's dad (son murdered by OJ Simpson - and yea, I left 'allegedly' out on purpose)
Who still watches? Who protests that?

whatever a-hole. I've been called worse.

I noticed you also included a detailed argument instead of just name-calling

Your comment is so extreme that it does not warrant an intelligent response. It is the definition of trash. You (if serious) should be shunned by all rational people.

I'm a heck of lot more concerned with game day football than what the DEKES put up at their house. I rarely pay any attention to them and don't give a flip if they have something up or not. You people sure are wrapped up in this.

Oh and as a bolstering of my comments above (top of Page 11)...

Did you know that Nike had the following shirts made, and FULLY INTENDED to keep them in production?

The only reason they pulled them off the shelves was that the Boston Marathon Bombings happened a few weeks (or a few months, or a year or so, I'm not certain) after the release of the shirts. However, had those bombings NOT occurred, you could find these shirts, ostensibly mocking one of the most tragic events in American history (the 1770 event), aimed at a couple of baseball sweeps, worn and sold to this day.
quote:

Nike has pulled a sports T-shirt emblazoned with the bloodied words “Boston Massacre” in the wake of last Monday’s marathon bombings. A spokesman for Nike told ABC News the retailer has now pulled all of the “Boston Massacre” shirts from their outlet stores, as well as from large online retailers like Fanatics Inc. (ABC News)

The sweeps came to be known colloquially among fans of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry as the first and second “Boston massacres.”

QUESTION: if being gay in the NFL makes one a hero and there's nothing wrong with being gay, how can making fun of same be wrong? I like LSU football. My friends make fun of me. What's the difference?

I was a student @ LSU before political correctness had arrived there. I remember 2 signs on the DKE house during the '90 season. Before the TX A&M game, there was a banner w/ their logo w/ a "e" on both sides of it, spelling "eATMe Aggies". Before the Ole Miss game, they had a pic of Mike the Tiger sodomizing Col. Reb w/ the caption "Hang on Rebels, the Tigers are coming!" Provocative (offensive?) signs are a tradition for this frat.

OK kids, we need to stop the bickering...in the immortal words of Rodney King "Ow, Ow... Stop hitting me officer"!! (Too soon?)

We've all get offended by someone's comments from time to time, but we've become so thin skinned on some things it's ridiculous. There IS a time and place for "comedy" when it pertains to tragic events and unfortunately we are not all on the same page in this regard. Heck, some people deal with tragedy through humor. It is a coping mechanism. Others are on the other extreme and seem to mourn the most "trivial" things forever.

Bottom line, we can agree to disagree, but the PERSONAL attacks are really not warranted. That being said, we are all here for the same reason.... LSU!!!

What do you guys expect ? We call the shooting in Fort Hood by the Terrorist ...workplace violence.

It will get worse, PC will cause more possible acts of terrorism to go unreported until it is too late.

It is all about PC.. "no one can have their feelings hurt" ..so ALL kids must get a trophy as well

we have allowed a few to turn the country into a WIMP.

I agree with that statement, too much polyticks involved in this discussion...but it was lively, and at times funny...

I am still at GEAUX DKE's...
