Yeah, those aren't the ones I was talking about. Those are pretty shitty but they still aren't New Orleans/West Bank level shitty.

Metairie is no place to live unless your family is old money from Old Metairie.

Bit of a renaissance in Bucktown area as well. Lots of old houses getting replaced by new ones. (tiny lots though, similar to old Metairie in that regard).

Yeah, I've been touting the Bucktown area for a while now. It's becoming more popular for people who can't live in Lakeview but long to for some reason. I've heard they literally cross the canal just to go to St Dominic rather than a "Metairie" church. This I do not understand.

Yeah, it's bigger than I thought (over 100,000), so that explains the low median income for a family. I'm sure it has really nice areas. I can't remember the last time I went to Metarie proper.

. Old houses that arent really updated that are still expensive and still has shitty schools.
But they are expensive for a reason. There's demand there and they aren't updated because Grandmaw that just died didn't want to change anything. Somebody like me or my friends buy that and then renovate it. It takes time and as cyclical.

Yes, the shitty school problem is definitely a valid complaint.

The vast majority of OM wealth is "new money." Like almost all of it.

My complaint is this is what pushed me and wife to the Nashville area though. We are a young couple(CPA and RN 26 year old) so we arent OT rich or poor. But unless you have money from family the NOLA area makes no sense for a couple in our position. There was really no sensible housing affordable for us. Then on top of that when we have kids we would still have to pay for school. Obviously we could have made it work but it seems dumb when there are such better options out there. And I hate and resent our government for that because we love NOLA

70's - 90's. It was starting to fade after that then Katrina dealt the final blow with the influx of messicans and the like.

I'll be the first to say a lot of Kenner sucks. But the neighborhoods I'm talking about are as nice and safe as any you'll find anywhere else in the area.

They're just a short 30 minute drive from downtown

How do you define "old money"?

A lot of the mega houses near MCC are doctors/lawyers/entrepreneurs who did not come from wealthy families. I'm not saying these people grew up poor or anything, but I'd bet the vast majority come from middle class upbringings.

You can get a sensible house in a good area of Metairie for less than $175k. It won't be Old Metairie, but it won't be by apartments.
