Anyone done any work there?
Decent hotels to stay at? Places to eat? Things to do in the area?
TIA

I had a friend that worked for Chevron Phillips in Sweeny. He hates that city with a passion. Always complained that it was a shithole with no good food or attractive women.
He's in Saudi now and a lot happier than he ever was in Sweeny.

It sounds God-awful that's for sure.

Nothing in Sweeny except the plant. Some small hotels in Van Vleck, Bay City, etc. did a TA there a couple years ago at P66. Stayed at a trailer park, so don't recall much about hotels. Town sucks, I do remember that.

Built a pipeline there. Lake Jackson is the closest metromass.

Agree on the Lake Jackson / Clute having more hotel & dining options for you, and recall a new hotel or two popping up on W. Columbia (but it's so small a town). Stayed a few times at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Angleton which is off Hwy 288 and is a straight shot to the plants on Hwy 35. There's a small hotel in the West Columbia country club, but it is a step back into 1985. But you're not off a busy highway.
However, I want to caution you that the WORST fog I have ever seen was making the morning drive from Lake Jackson into Sweeny. Couldn't see five feet ahead - and everyone is hauling arse to the plants. Saw some bad fog-related accidents during my brief time there.

Looks like nothing there, but from my experience, and hour drive in Texas is like a daily thing

I once took a shite in Sweeny. It instantly made the town smell better.

When I worked for COP, we visited their refinery out there. Don't remember much of the town though, which is saying something.

I thought you were an operator. Why are you working turnarounds?
