I guess it depends on the type of drugs you are going to be on.

Both of them are extremely boring performers. Tool puts out much better albums.

you've reached the bottom of the barrel when you're hating on a band's tuning preference. that's it, go home, there's nothing else left to hate tool for.

It is a pretty trite thing that metal bands do to make power chords easier to play

lots of artists that are not metal have used them to achieve a certain sound they were after. slide players love open G, SRV lived in E flat, and eddie van halen has a mechanism on his guitar that quickly switches from E to D.

i guess using a capo now is just a trite thing singer/songwriters do to make playing in different keys easier.

Anders Osborne plays in open D fwiw and no one hates on him for doing so. Weezer plays in E flat. It's just a band preference thing.

Would you prefer for me to discuss their shitty lyrics with vague themes of malaise and angst?

Dude, I never said I was opposed to alternate tunings. Obviously they make a lot of sense for slide guitar players, as well as other songs specific to the key they are in. And if it sounds good, who cares?

I just think metal bands constantly relying on Dropped D to create that "let's wear black and cut ourselves" sound is lame. It is really more about my distaste for that sound.

most metal bands don't tune in D, they tune in C, fwiw.

and you're thinking of "goth" and "emo" bands, which tool does not relate to either

Tool has ALWAYS been a D tuned band since their inception in 1991. It's always been there thing.

thanks for the lesson!

I get what you're saying about tool, but I don't think you're looking at them objectively at all.

i think you're a bit of a hater that wants to lump them in with the emo and goth crowd and i don't think that's accurate at all

yes, that'd actually be a good reason to dislike a band or genre.

i think phish relying on standard E tuning to create that "let's make dad rock and touch kids" sound is pretty lame too, but singling out an arbitrary tuning is silly. every musician is "relying" on a tuning to create a sound; it's the whole point of playing the music in the first place.

It is really more about my distaste for that sound.
finally some honesty
