Calling OT Mechanics: Explorer stops accelerating

My mom has a 2012 Ford Explorer and sporadically the car will stop accelerating. Engine still running, but that's it. Hopefully she is on a road with a shoulder she can bail onto at the time. It has been to the dealership 3 times and they can not find a problem. Ford is not being cooperative either. Any thoughts? About to get a lawyer, she needs a vehicle she can trust.

it sounds a little bit like the ecoboost problems they had on the F150
i know the same engine is put into the Explorer Sport....this is just a thought

Likely removing her foot from the gas pedal.

Does it have traction control?

Had a very similar issue with my Nissan. Dealership wanted to change the transmission. Took it to a transmission shop and found out it was my computer that was bad.
May be worth checking out. As we all know dealership service departments are notorious for this kind of thing.

Some GM vehicles that experienced that problem (Impalas) of no acceleration was a result of a throttle sensor that is mounted on the accelerator pedal. GM vehicles (and I guess other makes as well) no longer use an accelerator cable. The throttle is controlled electronically and the sensor (that's incorporated into the accelerator pedal assy) sends the signal. Don't know if Fords have such a sensor but maybe they do?
