Been saying this for about 10 years now. It'll happen eventually.

ETA: 10 game regular season. NC winner plays 14 games.

Keep the bowls in tact. Some bowls are "playoff games", some bowls are just regular bowls. 4 Major bowls are the major playoff games and championship is rotated among them.. sound familiar?

meh. i get trying to find the 2 best teams from the regular season, makes the games mean more.

i get expanding it to 4 teams. always an argument over someone getting left out when picking the top two teams.

so if a team was left out of the bcs cause they ended up 3rd or 4th i understand that, however, if a team cant get into the top 4 then they werent really in the argument for being one of the top 2. thats all this is about.

i think people want to see more teams in the playoffs because they like handouts and govt cheese. lets just keep up with little league soccer, not keep score and give everyone a trophy.

if a team cant make the top 4, they screwed up somewhere, arent good enough, etc. there will always be debate for the 4 spot now, thats just the nature of things, however, number 5 wont be much of an argument to be one of the top 2 teams. 3 and 4 are just wildcards we needed to keep a deserving 3rd place team from being left out that may have a better argument than the 2nd team. thats it. just takin care of the mess of picking only 2 teams.

2001 LSU. Rohan to Reed says Hai!

And that's only one because I don't follow enough other teams well to know who else turned it on towards the end of the year. But I know they are out there.

Oh, so we should not worry about putting the best 4 teams in the playoffs.

no, we shouldn't worry about that. If you lose a critical game late in the year, with your conference championship on the line, you shouldn't get in over a conference champion from another conference simply because you'd probably be favored against that team at a neutral site.

The word 'playoff', where you win or go home, intrinsically contradicts the rest of your sentence. Geez Louise...

I can't think of one where a 4th team had a legit gripe for being left out. So, as it is now, there's a strong likelihood that there will be at least one team that really isn't deserving getting a chance to play for the title. 4 teams is more than enough, IMO.

I don't understand why people don't see this truth.

because people dont want to think, they want to feel. not an accident we're 30th (or more) in the world in math and science.

The fact that the system does not have a clear cut standard and the teams are totally at the discretion of a committee is an absolute joke. It's exactly why playoffs are stupid in college football.

All of the criteria that the selection committee uses has been made public actually.

1 - not really, but if so, it's as it should be. They probably don't deserve it.

2 - Even if true, so what?

3 - Not sure where to start with this fail.

4 - Your entire post sucks.

Except for the fact that some say Conference Champions weighs heavily on it and others say doesnt matter, best 4.

Come on man. The whole point is for the best 4 teams to play for the title.

how so, if more teams get into the "playoffs"?

playoffs, like the dollar, become less valuable the more you inflate it.

No. The head of the College Football Playoff has said repeatedly that conference championships will play a factor just like SOS, head to head, etc. They have never said one criteria weighs more than another.

although practically it would never work, I always thought the best system was a top 2 / conditional 4 system where the 4 team setup was triggered based on how close the #3 team was to the #1 team.

that kind of thing would be nice to see, but yeah, "mass entertainment" wouldnt allow for that, people wouldnt "feel" like it made any sense.

They got carpetbombed at home while giving up up a school record yards-against to a QB making his first ever start. If that doesn't disqualify you from national championship talk, what the hell does?

actually, its to find the best 2 teams. since theres been legitmate debate over a 3rd team maybe being more deserving than the 2 selected, we're going to 4 to make sure one of the 2 most deserving doesnt get left out.

The point should be that the 4 most deserving teams play for the title. November should largely be de-facto elimination games. The teams with the best seasons should get in. If Mich State wins the Big 10 at 12-1 while an undefeated Auburn loses the Iron Bowl with a trip to Atlanta on the line, Mich State should go over Auburn all day long, regardless of whether the consensus thought is that Auburn is a better team.

Yes, the criteria that they use or take into account has been made public, but how they use it and how they weigh each aspect hasn't and won't.

In the end the answer will be, "because we said so".

There is room for leeway, which means that anyone on that committee can interpret the information as they see fit. Instead of hundreds of opinions and computers using a formula, now we have the opinions of a select few.

2001 LSU

Was a hot team at the end of the year, but not championship worthy. They got blown out at home by Florida (worse than USCe got blown out last night), lost another home game to an inferior Ole Miss team, and lost to Tennessee on the road.
