We clearly would be one of the teams, if not the team from pot 3 that other teams don't want to get in their group.

Leverkeusen, Ajax, Olymp wouldn't trouble Real, Chelsea etc. at all in a group (or likely even in the games against them)

Liverpool has the potential to really mess up the group for the bigger sides because of our ability to score goals. Sure, we'll give them up too, but they had better be ready to go when we play.

I'm sure they don't "fear" us, but you're kidding yourself if you think they don't also hope for anyone else from that pot.

I'm no Liverpool fan but ManU fans acting like Liverpool isn't, at worst, the second best/most dangerous pot 3 team is kidding themselves.

they've got new signings that need to acclimate. not everyone can warm-up with burnley and Sunderland.

eta: I know they played Swansea. don't know why I typed Burnley.

Liverpool is going to be stretched really thin, especially on defense. They'll give up a good bit of goals.

No, I get it. It's just the fact that they haven't been in the Champions League since 2009, yet have no problems stating...

We're actually a lot deeper than last year. I've said it plenty of times, we'll give up goals because of the system, having new guys playing together, and because of a thin midfield with no true DM. Our backline is actually somewhat deep. Just unfortunate now that we have 4 guys out with injuries, but most should be back soon

Ah, I should have simplified it for you:

No one wants to draw Liverpool out of pot 3.

I figured most people would understand that statement, you've proven me wrong in that regard!

I don't think scared is the word I would use. More like annoyed. Or inconvenienced.

Fewer want to draw Athletic. Recent European pedigree (Europa-finalists a couple years ago, raped United, etc.), new stadium, great fans, a team of "experienced," young, home-grown players who want that club to succeed more than most things in life, and a seriously underrated manager.

There's a difference between depth and champions league depth.

Yep -

Five CBs (unless one is sold) - Lovren, Skyrtel, Agger, Sakho and Toure.

Five outside backs - Manquillo, Moreno, Flanagan, Johnson, Enrique. Two of them have proven to play either side.

Thats plenty enough depth at the back. Not all of it is great, but all of it is good enough to see through the run of games we have.

Who takes on Stevie's position when he doesn't play is the only depth question. There is certainly some drop-off in talent at other positions, but not horribly.

I'm not worried about CL depth affecting our CL performance, I'm worried about using our starters in CL and not having the depth to perform in the PL. Thats the factor everyone think will make 'Pool fall out of the top 4 this year.

Give it time. Make no mistake, I have absolutely no delusions of winning this tournament. Which is a major reason I want to see the best teams in Europe come to Anfield again. What's the point otherwise?

I'm not trying to demean Liverpool. Dortmund was running the Bundesliga their first year in the champions league but they couldn't keep up.

I think of it less us having champions league depth as us having a true champions league back four. The difference in quality from starters to backups is not much at all. The problem is that's cause we don't have a super strong backline to begin with. And as I said, part of it is the system with our fullbacks caught up field way too much and no true DM to step in and break up play in those situations
