How does getting a $699 product for $75 seem "reasonable"

every time i have started a new contract, it has been pay $199 for whatever the latest phone is. so when trading in a near brand new s4 getting $125 for the phone seemed reasonable.

also no, paying $200 for the phone up front does not come out to the same as paying $699 over 2 years.

You basically had two options. Pay $199 for the phone and your bill be $150 or pay $44 for the phone and your bill is $150. Yes you're financing the phone over two years but you come out cheaper because your bill is around $150 either way but the upfront pricing is cheaper the way you did it.

I spent some time in there last week doing the same thing.
