Interesting thought. I've never looked at it in that light.

First off, it's star name is Sol.

Secondly, why should it have a complicated name? It's the one object basically every creature knows about (that and the Moon), and I think its probable that the sun was the first word ever developed, maybe next to mom and food.

Like Earth? Mercury? Saturn? Neptune?

Those are MAN names. Sun is well..lame.

Maybe it has such a simple name so that it'll fit into songs easily. Everybody likes songs about the sun.

Imagine the sun having a complicated name like "Serengeti". Only one band dared to climb that mountain of complicated song lyrics.

That's pretty simple

Named after Gods since they appeared to move fairly randomly in the sky. The Sun could always be predicted.

Another question is which constellation could our sun be assigned?

We are too close to assign it to a constellation from Earth's perspective.

Constellations don't really exist. It's just humans looking for patterns that aren't there. They change over time as the universe and its matter expands and shifts. From any other perspective, the sun could be part of infinite number of constellations. Literally anything you or any other being could imagine.

Ignignokt: We are Mooninites from the inner core of the moon.
Err: You said it right.
Ignignokt: Our race is hundreds of years beyond yours.
Err: Man, you hear what he's saying?
Ignignokt: Some would say that the Earth is our moon.
Err: We're the moon.
Ignignokt: But that would belittle the name of our moon, which is: The Moon.
Err: Point is: we're at the center, not you.

You've just started a hotly debated topic. Hopefully someone in here can shed some light on this, maybe give us a ray of hope for getting to the core of this issue.
