While I've never been unemployed the advice I've offered others when doing their searches boils down to two things:

1. Treat your job search like a job. Don't sleep in, get dressed and spend your day reviewing opportunities, networking over coffee/lunch, and attending organizational meetings/events within your profession.

2. When you aren't doing #1, or need to fill time. Pick up a part time job related to a hobby of yours or volunteer. It'll keep you from sitting at home watching TV and also lessen your expenses related to your hobby.
