This is the third thread I've read thats about taking a leap and moving somewhere else.
I'm seriously considering it.
It's constantly on my mind. One thing that keeps me "locked-down" is the presumption that the United States of America is still the greatest country on Earth - but I'm not too sure about that anymore. Have I bought in to the negativity? Another thing keeping me here is the old adage: Careful what you wish for.

If these are a good example of the Panamanian crop, I'M SOLD.

Hopefully, the Panamanian women's idea of an ideal male is a six and a half foot tall Viking-American. If so, I'll have to beat away pussy with a stick.

Unfortunately (perhaps fortunately), I won't be near any large towns/cities. The closest one is Portobelo (like 3-4k), but I'll be living in a little village named Puerto Lindo. Luckily, Panama is a small county (land wise), so I wouldn't have to go far to travel.

Also, I get a fricking horse for transportation. Roll Tide.

I have a friend that moved to panama about a year ago. He's in a small surfing village where he and his partners opened a surf resort. Haven't spoken to him in a while but he was loving it last I heard.

I have traveled to many areas of Panama, but none east of the canal. The country is far less developed as you approach the Darien Gap.

Yes, the women are very beautiful. They also don't have the unbelievable sense of entitlement that American women exhibit.

If you don't already habla espanol muy bien, you should start learning now. Although different areas of Latin America have different dialects, watching Univision (with English captions) is a good way to familiarize yourself with cadence and pronunciations.

The area you are speaking of is a popular waypoint on a major smuggling route so you will find high quality at low prices.
This, combined with the women, should provide you with the experience of a lifetime.

Also, the fishing is incredible year round.
IMO, this is an opportunity you shouldn't pass up.
Good luck!
Keep us posted.

It is not a coincidence that Colon shares a name with the Placa del Pupu in humans. They are both truly fully shite-tay.

Avoid at least the one you can find on the map.

Otherwise a great time can be found there, good luck.

Que?
You do know that Colon is Spanish for Columbus, as in Christopher Columbus? Don't you?

I won't be terribly close to Colon, though I will technically be in the province. If I truly need a taste of the city, I'll just go to Panama City proper.

A word of caution...
the quality of recreational stimulants decreases and the price increases in the large metro areas.
Don't travel with party favors and only deal with people you trust when you visit a new area of the country...too easy to get caught in a shakedown...or worse.

I'm a hippie living in rural western North Carolina. I have better sense than to travel with more than I can eat.

Really?

So if one of his crew smoked hemp, they'd have a high Colonic?

Was in Panama in '89 for the invasion with a follow-up 18-month deployment nearly 2 years after.

So, it's been awhile...but holy shite did I enjoy that second deployment. Stay away from any crowded cities and head toward the coastlines (pretty easy given how narrow the country is). Beautiful scenery and beautiful women.

I hope it wasn't your daughter that I lost my virginity to, because her father had the exact same story, with the addition of marrying a Panamanian woman.

Spent 6 years and have been all over Europe, Central and South America as well as the Carribean. Panama City is hands down my favorite. Great melting pot for all of South and Central America. Terrific fishing. Had a blast every time I was there.

When I say I loved it, it was Panama City on the Pacific side that I loved. Colon not so much....of course we never spent more than a day in Colon and I've spent a month in Panama City. Putting together a fishing excursion for my friends in a Panama City right now.
