You are obviously not from south Louisiana. Also, you must have just moved here. How long have you been here? I'm originally from New Iberia and have been hearing this my whole life (still do living in Lafayette).

I'm in the family, too.

But I thought two sets of Fontenot's settled. One in Slidell the other in the Ville Platte area.

From BR. Been here my whole life. Cajun grandparents. First time I heard it was when a coworker saw a picture of my son.

Do you live in Shreveport or other parts of North LA? That would make this thread make more sense.

That's what's different about Baton Rouge, it's really more redneck like north Louisiana.

It's a Cajun term and if your grandparents are truly Cajun they would have heard this a million times. Where do they live?

Like I said, grew up in New Iberia and heard this seemingly on a daily basis (they say it about anything cute, a puppy, kitten, etc...)

Fontenot isn't a big name in BR. No one can spell or pronounce it. Most of my family stretches from Lake Charles to New Iberia.

It seems that 'cher' is more of a lafayette area thing. I would hear it in LC but people say it every other word in Lafayette.

They are from Ville Platte. They never said anything like "cher, bebe".
