I don't think the people currently "demonstrating", rioting and looting care much about anything or are going to see things any differently no matter what the evidence shows.

Agreed, but I don't think it's because of any narrative. Had the police been a little more forthcoming with info from the start, some of the negative sentiment would have been abated. The local police have created their own narrative which has caused a lot of the animosity. At this point, there's no reasonable outcome to this.

oh the cops fricked up no doubt, but they were basically trying to collect evidence in the 1-3 days after the shooting

the standard these irrational-emotional thinkers desire is insane and who would be disproportionately affected if this were the standard? THEM

Timeline:
Saturday approx. noon Brown is shot
Sunday morning police at presser say Brown was unarmed and shot after struggle for gun...
Sunday night a candlelight vigil mourning Brown turns violent around 9:00pm

It is what it is, and it happened relatively fast. If the people involved don't trust the system to provide justice then the result is chaos.

This may be true with the actual locals who are pissed off.

Problem is that there's a lot of elements who decided to show up and cause problems, which including "looter tourism" from states such as Illinois and Texas, professional race mongers like Jesse Jackson, militant assholes like the Communist Party and New Black Panthers, etc. And the fricking Klan is announcing rallies to be held soon.

In short, this situation is turning into a "racism!" bug light for pretty much every a-hole in the country.

And now Eric Holder is stepping into the middle of this clusterfrick. With his track record, he's going to end up inflaming things.
