I don't like the Lexus appearance, but when my GF was buying her IS a while back, loading up a Camry (which is not as sporty as an IS obviously) would have gotten really close to the cost of her Lexus.

It's been a good car. Also, although results may vary, when her nav system went totally out after she was out of warranty, the dealership quoted her something ridiculous like 4k. She called Lexus and they had it replaced for her for free within a couple of days.

I'd take a Equus over most of Lexus' models

Wow someone has a camry older than my 05. Nice.
Actually was next to a Lexus at a stoplight yesterday and noticed how much it looked like a camry.

This doesn't even take into account the better materials used when building the Lexus. The interior are nicer, they have better paint, higher quality suspension.

Well, that makes one of us. I'm not paying $60,000+ for a Hyundai. That car is way too new to make that a good idea.

Yeah, I agree. I can't say I'm a huge Lexus fan, but there is clearly a difference between loading up a non-luxury vehicle and the styling of a luxury car.

She'll tell you she probably wouldn't buy a new Lexus at that price again, but it's been a good car.

I had a 2007 model. Fun little car. Lots of get up and go.

Tires are expensive, though, and only last about 10K miles. Might want to see what condition the tires are in to make sure you won't be replacing them as soon as you get the car.

Probably the only Lexus I'd buy is the ES line. Same engine, tranny, chassis as the Camry. Great cars.

Wrong.

The current ES350 is still based on a Toyota — just a bigger one: The full-sized Avalon.

Ahh, I had an ES, and it was basically a dressed-up Camry. That was also several years ago.

My point being, it's better to get a model that has common components as a Toyota. You get the styling, etc you want to buy a Lexus for, but maintenance costs should be cheaper, in theory.

I guess you haven't owned one.

Because that's what it is all about, ultimately, right? Looks.

I would have no problem going into a loaded Camry from my ES 350 - however, it won't be a Lexus.

Hyundais are nice cars for the money, no question. But they aren't Lexus, either.

I will say this about the OP - I do not care for the IS - while my car was being serviced, I had a loaner IS and I got a distinctly "dressed up" Corolla feel from it - I think the new model may have addressed some of this, but my first impression was that.

However, I assure you that an ES, despite its similar appearance and even common platform, is a significant upgrade from the Camry (ETA: or now, the Avalon) in comfort, features, ride, "feel", etc. The GS and LS are even nicer. I rode in an early model LX (the Lexus version of the Landcruiser) - it was one of the nicest vehicles I have ever been in - bar none - regardless of cost.

If you want to portray tacky new money on a used car budget, then yes.
People with real money have cars that are made for them to be backseat passengers, not as drivers.
Do like Chris Rock and Will Ferrell and drive an old Camry to your $10 million home.

No, soft rubber. They are performance tires designed to stick to the road, not to last.

Yeh, when I see people driving a 12 year old Camry the first thing I think is, "Man, that person prolly has a lot of money to spend"
