A major problem is that the University of Hawaii has to pay for each visiting team's travel expenses to play Hawaii at home. Since Norm Chow has coached, the team in 4-20; doesn't put fans in the seats. Last year, the AD was selling half price tickets at a value of $15-$20 per ticket and nobody showed.

+UH does not have their own stadium; they rent the ProBowl stadium for an exorbitant amount each season.

+Now UH is millions in debt and if the Board of Regents cannot cover the loss, the program is closed.

UH cannot afford to pay 8 teams a year to fly over to Hawaii just for big L.

Not sure if it matters, but Joey Iosefa is the offense; very strong pounder. He is a fb/rb hybrid. fwiw. LINK

according to the article they do have a very small glimmer of hope that the Pac 12 might consider them as a way to break into Asian markets.

I hope they realize that they better beef up their academics twofold and not place all their hopes on bringing the Asian market...

Not that Hawaii to the Pac-12 will ever happen but further conference expansion won't be about academics.

Not that surprising. Football is an expensive sport to maintain and Hawaii has exorbitant travel costs.

Yes. May see the end of college football as we know it in a few years.

Had wondered why June Jones made what seemed like a lateral move at the time to SMU.

Makes sense now.

Break into the Asian markets? I assume they already appeal to and have a lot of Asian students.. especially compared to the other Power 4 conferences.

Yeah but with the semi-breakaway it's only going to get tougher and tougher for them. Hopefully a rule gets passed so p5 teams only play each other.

That is not gonna happen, there aren't enough wf, ISU, Kentucky's and other cupcakes for the P5 to have 12 games. LSU (for example) still needs games against ULM, Tech, ULL to fill out its schedule.

Just Googled that. What a clusterfrick. How in the Hell does that happen at a "major" University?

My first thought was June Jones. Here's a guy, a UH alum, who left paradise for a concrete jungle on a hot prairie, and the only program to get the death penalty.

they could use a random schedule generator taking into account conferences and traditional rivalries

June also has a known affinity for cheerleaders.. Main reason he didn't get the Oregon State job many years ago.

I seem to recall that Louisville was discussing dropping their football program not so long ago.

But now they're in a Power 5 conference. Plus they have Papa John funding things.

SMU bumped his salary to $2 million a year which at the time was the highest salary for a non BCS coach. I think only Tubs has a higher non P5 salary right now. Considering how lazy he has been at SMU its not the worst thing in the world for them that he left. Where they went wrong was hiring Norm Chow who has been nothing short of a disaster.

If Kentucky and their student athletes are so poor and don't have any extra money for food how can they afford to go to the Bahamas for a week. Athletes have it a lot better than most want to admit.
