Baseball is stronger than ever in the regional markets where the teams play, for attendances and tv ratings.

On a national perspective, for tv ratings, it's slightly down.

None of the "big 3" pro leagues are "down" or "dying" by any stretch of the imagination- they are all doing quite well.

It is becoming more regional like hockey in terms of broadcasts, and TV is where the big money lies.

It has been regional for nearly a decade. Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports South, etc. All these type of stations pay big bucks to broadcast regionally and it was done purposefully--so that more teams got TV exposure, even if just to a given region.

The regional contracts are big reason why the teams are making so much damn money.

Now if they'd just cut about 30 games off the regular season to keep from playing the World Series in fricking November, those numbers would be massive. Instead, they play at the same time as the NFL and NBA regular seasons are in full swing. Absolutely stupid. And 132 games is more than enough to figure out who the best five teams in each League are.

Pace of an MLB can be an issue but most games are 2:30 to 3:00 hours in length about same time as your average NFL/NBA game thanks to commercials.
I don't think you're correct in your NBA comparison.

The average MLB game this season, the best I could find is 3 hours and 8 minutes. The best I could find for the NBA is 2011 data which has it at 2 hours and 20 minutes. I'd imagine it hasn't climbed anywhere near your assertion to make it about the same time as MLB, there's a substantial difference.

Football:

An average professional football game lasts 3 hours and 12 minutes, but if you tally up the time when the ball is actually in play, the action amounts to a mere 11 minutes.

Baseball:

Per the 2013 WSJ study, Baseball games feature 17 minutes and 58 seconds of action. Baseball game typically last 2 hours and 58 minutes.

Basketball:

NBA games average 2 hours and 18 minutes in actual time.

And here is the chart

So the pace of an NBA game was a bit faster than I thought off the top of my head. Was going by the TBS broadcast which starts at 7 and typically ends at 10.

Been saying this for years. The clubs went to 162 game schedule before big TV deals and when attendance paid all the bills. Now that TV is a bigger deal, they should cut a month in a half off the season and have the WS being played in late August/early September and they would probably get a higher TV rating because of it.
