I will admit that i posted this pretty quickly after watching and without a ton of thought. Still and all, exceptional writing and acting. Many, many juicy scenes. Great themes. Breasts. Etc.

I didn't see it that way.

Leo was his baseline level of good (+), but it does not compare to his best performances IMO. No one else stood out to me. Robbie was terrible. Fine AF, but terrible.

to me they are very different kinds of movies.

Wolf is sort of meta in the sense that the intention is to depict the lifestyle in a negative way via a sort of visceral, immersive projection of that lifestyle. Overdoing it to the point that the typical member of the audience is disgusted (which will lead them to incorrectly bash the movie itself). I think it's exceptionally well done and extremely underrated by those who don't understand or don't like what Scorsese set out to do.

Goodfellas is a classically well made film. It's extremely watchable and, unlike wolf, it glorifies the lifestyle it's portraying. This is also transferred, this time into unwarranted praise, by those who romanticize that lifestyle themselves. It's a great movie but not quite the all time classic it's made out to be by some.

Overall I personally give a slight edge to Wolf but it's close.

Wolf of Wall Street is one of Scorsese's weakest directional efforts in my opinion. Goodfellas along with Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and Mean Streets are undisputed masterpieces. The King of Comedy, The Departed, Casino, Afterhours, Hugo, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, and Last Temptation of Christ were all easily better WOWS.

Yes, Goodfellas is overrated.

It deserved to lose to Dances with Wolves and probably shouldn't have been nominated at all.

Pesci phoned in his performance.

Soundtrack sucked.

The Mafia isn't real.

Sopranos never should have been made.

Agreed, and the same goes for American Hustle. After the build up I thought both were pretty disappointing.

Wolf of Wall Street was pretty good. Very entertaining. But you're out of your damn mind if you think it's better than Goodfellas. That's a top 5 greatest movie.
