Love what I'm hearing about Hunter, Herron, and Miles talking about how good the LB depth is. Having a guy get fatigued, and the one playing backup subbing in is as talented or more and faster.

Love hearing about Quinn and Williams and Fournette showing out. Can't wait to see that "big, powerful man", show out against Wisconsin. They aren't going to know what hit them when Fournette rolls through Houston with Magee and Hilliard leading the charge early.

Miles also talked about Robinson playing like a veteran too.

At QB, does it still matter? At least til Auburn, this team will win on dominant power running like Wisconsin, with a strong defense. Both guys will split time until it is evident which will start. IDGAF about the starter at QB this year.

We won 10 games in 2010 with 7 TDs thrown against 10 ints and 1865 passing yards, in the regular season alone. Finished out the season with 11 wins on only 10 TD passes and 2023 passing yards.
-We beat a 9 win WVU team
-an 8 win UNC team
-an 8 win Florida team
-a 9 win 15th ranked (final ranking) MSU team
-a 10 win 10th ranked (final ranking) Bama team
-then beat the snot out of a 9 win 19th ranked (final ranking) TAMU team

-We lost against a 14 win 1st ranked (final ranking) Auburn team, by 7 points
-a 10 win 12th ranked (final ranking), Aekansas team by 8 points.

let's say 2010 teams match up with our 2014 opponents

TAMU is WVU (nearly identical in the way the teams play)
Wisky is UNC (Wisky should be a bit better)
Florida is Florida (almost exactly like they were that year)
MSU is MSU (again, almost exactly like they were that year)
Bama is Bama (and actually, they were better in 2010)

Auburn is Auburn (but not as good as that year IMO)
Ole Miss is Arky (although I don't think they are that good, could be though)

I like this team, I like that they are pretty much set up like the 2010 team, but waaay better in the backfield and offensive line. Also waaay better at LB and DE.

I've got em at 10-2, but could be 11-1 if the DT position and QB get worked out and is at least serviceable by Auburn.

I love this team's potential. Everyone's talking about next year, but we have the pieces to make a playoff run this year, if everything falls into place.

Herron

Really glad to hear the great reports on Herron throughout fall camp. We'll need him to help anchor that line for the LB corps.

Bitch Davis said yesterday that he felt his 2010 UNC team were on the cusp of winning a title then the wheels fell off.

I'm just ready to watch them play. I'm not setting any expectations on these kids shoulders. It's pointless to do so

i'm with you,OP. I think this team will have special chemistry and I expect a special season. I don't know how that plays out in the win/loss total, or championships.

But I think it will be a fun season of football to enjoy.

First of all, who down votes this?

I agree with this. Also, when Bama won it all in 2011 McCarron was only named the starter in the second or third game. His QB play was not stellar but didn't have to be. I think we are somewhat in a similar position this year. Defense should be better than last year, running game will be epic as always, playmakers on both sides of the ball.

So we can break in a young QB early and by the time we get to the heart of our schedule we should be rolling.

well, yeah, it does. a lot. we need one guy getting as many reps against as many first team defenses as possible. that's the only way a new starter, maybe even a true freshman, will be ready for second half of the schedule.

frick it, I'll say it, we can do this, we can win the SEC, we can win the NC, this year, we have the talent and we have the coaching. we'll need things to go right, some players to surprise us, and we'll need some luck, but that's always the case with any championship team.

I'm always optimistic as hell and this year is no different.

every year we all fall in love with the team before the first game. the reality is we don't have a QB and the proven WR's to pull a game out if need be. we also are suspect on the DL. AND the west is more balanced this year with auburn and the 2 Mississippi schools being much improved.

yes, we can run the table or be a one loss team if everything breaks right but we are likely a 2 or 3 loss team. but i'll still love them and the coaches too.

Last year we had a veteran offense coming back but were decimated on defense because of NFL defections. This year it's the opposite. But I would trade for a defensive football team over an offensive one because of the turnovers and additional opportunities they can create.

Me likey! I believe this team could be really, really good despite all the youth. I like how you compared the opponents from 2010 to the 2014 opponents. I actually believe this years schedule is easier. Auburn 2010 had Cam Newton. They don't have anyone like that touching the ball on every play and Chavis knows how to stop that offense. Also, we have Cam Cameron calling the plays now. QB be damn, we have always found a way to win double digit games. We will once again.

I think the fans that follow and are more familiar with recruiting have higher expectations and a better feel for this team. A lot of fans don't truly realize how talented these young men are. I remember last season I was trying to convince several fans about Rashard Robinson and how physical he plays even though he didn't look physically ready. Guys knew Tre White was gonna make a difference as soon as he stepped on campus. Honestly, about 10 of those type of guys are in the 2014 class. They are gonna make an immediate impact and pleasantly surprise some LSU fans.

I like the optimism but I'm extremely skeptical when Miles praises a young guy like Herron. It seemed kinda odd to me he gets all this praise right after the exaggerated reports on QT's injury in a position that's considered a possible weakness this year.

When Miles speak he often does so in code. You can usually take what he says as the opposite meaning. Do you guys remember a few years back when he made the bold comment "this is the best oline I've ever coached" and it turned out to be the worst under his time at LSU?
