Yeah, news report is Holmes will be our RT (for now). A lot of delusional fans who think Holmes is good enough to start for us too.

But yeah, the Julio trade doesn't hurt us. Its the injury prone players we keep. We already have 2 starters out. Last year, we were in the double digits. We currently have near 9 million in cap space, but watch us do nothing with it.

No shite, another reason I am ill with this team. God damn it. I want them to succeed so badly and in 1 friggin thread, I've already listed what, 4-5 issues with how and why this team is getting run into the ground.

fricking Falcons. I can already tell this is gonna be a drunken laugh-off of a season. Can't wait.

ETA: I know, my tears are glorious. Probably cause they're filled with vodka.

How can you say this? Do you or do you not have depth issues? Now, I've actually heard that the picks you traded away didn't matter because the team is terrible at drafting anyway, but...hold on...

Falcons should start Matt Ryan's backup... we seem to have problems with QBs playing their first start.

Yea well, that's probably Renfree at the moment. NOT T.J. Yates, who we made a trade for. You know, the old, give away a LBer for a backup QB that isn't even gonna make the team, type move.
Always a solid go-to trade.

Also, does this mean that the Browns are gonna start Johnny Football for the Saints game? I feel it. It's happening.

Oh, that's right. It is actually impossible to add depth during free agency, isn't it. The Julio trade is the Saints biggest troll, but dumbest troll also. The Julio trade didn't prevent us from having depth, our FOH did. We have always have the cap, just never use it.

Sure, if you want expensive depth. Don't be obtuse.

Being obtuse is believing the Julio trade hurt our depth. And free agent depth players aren't expensive, free agent starters are. Yes, the vet minimum is more than the rookie minimum, but when you have 9 million in free cap space, that extra $250k or so doesn't matter.

There's a reason picks are considered assets. If you don't have them, you have to supplement with UDFA and FA. You can spin it all you want, but there's no way that the trade didn't effect your depth.

Aaaaaaaaaaand it's cheaper to draft a starter than to sign one.

Of course it played an effect, but to believe that depth can't be addressed also in free agency is laughable.

I am not disagreeing that the falcons don't have terrible depth. But the problem isn't from the Julio trade. Its from poor player evaluation and lack of willing to use the cap. I mean, in what universe was/is Holmes or Dent a starter? At least Dent was a decent backup, but Holmes didn't even look like a 2nd string player last year.

ETA: and again, when you have close to 9 million in cap space, that is a useless argument.

It did, a little, sure. But not nearly as much as making bad decisions like the Sam Baker re-signing.

Look at ATL's 2012 draft:
Round 2 (55): Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

Round 3 (91)(from Baltimore): Lamar Holmes, OT, Southern Miss

Round 5 (157): Bradie Ewing, FB, Wisconsin

Round 5 (164)(from Baltimore): Jonathan Massaquoi, DE, Troy

Round 6 (192): Charles Mitchell, S, Mississippi State

Round 7 (249): Travian Robertson, DT, South Carolina

frick me. Re-looking at those, our talent evaluators just flat out suck balls. Those are awful picks. Honestly, Bradie fricking Ewing at FB is the best one of those. God I hate my team.

Strawman. I never said that.

It's all three.

Yeah man, player evaluation has always been the real problem. We have depth, but players are evaluated as 2nd string when they shouldn't even make the 53 man roster. Then we have all this cap, and we don't use it when we are easily able to get the players we need.

Doesn't help we keep injury prone players. I love Spoon, but him and Baker should be gone after this season.

I also never said that the Julio trade didn't effect depth. My point was depth could have been easily addressed in free agency with our cap space. You were just assuming that was my point.

And you know what assuming does, it makes an arse out of you.

I have a feeling a lot of people are gonna be gone after this season. Might be a rebuilding 2-3 years. The team has gone rather flat.

Then again, all this is just after this bad showing over a pre-season game. Watch em beat the Titans 42-0. But doubtful.

I honestly think Falcons fans are so in-love with Jones as a player that they refuse to acknowledge the ill effects of the trade.

Julio is a great WR, the problem is they gave up a pro bowl QB type ransom to get him.

Where did I say it couldn't effect depth? Again, what hurt our depth wasn't the Julio trade, it was not adding depth in free agency when we had the cap space.

Monday's must be bad days for reading comprehension.
