if he's dunking, that mean's he's catching TDs... the first 15 yards of a drive is never going to be the difference between giving up touchdowns or not, so IDGAF

Hmmmmmm......thinking........yeah, that's pretty stupid.

also sometimes it's worth taking 15 to get the team and the Dome fired up... obviously not every time but coach Payton knows when we need it

Key word being "sometimes", and there are ways to get the crowd fired up that don't result in a penalty. Thing is, Jimmy does the dunk with EVERY TD. It's not crazy to think that he'd do it without thinking if Payton doesn't address it.

Seriously? No chance he does it during the regular season. People always talk about the preseason being meaningless, and now are acting like Graham did it in the middle of the NFC championship game.

People have been dunking the football for a long time, Tony Gonzales back in Kansas City, Gates in San Diego. Hell, Alvin Harper dunked the ball back in the Super Bowl for the Cowboys. A bunch of people have done it. Calvin Johnson, Josh Gordon, Shady McCoy, etc.

Now they pass "The Jimmy Graham Rule" and Jimmy's upset. I can't really blame him and he's letting them know how upset he is by doing it in preseason. I don't have a huge issue with it and this article is a little over the top. But I don't have an issue with people criticizing it either. Great/star athletes are always over criticized.

they should just make it a 15 yard penalty if you cause a delay. Team celebrations should be OK, coming up with fun props should be OK, of course cell phones and sharpies and such should be banned, but all the other celebration rules are retarded.

How about just make the goalposts stronger? Especially in the cheap-arse Georgia dome.

It is preseason. Dunking got us a penalty. The penalty allowed for a return on the kickoffs. The kickoff return allowed for us to evaluate kick coverage, which we would not have been able to do
if they had been touchbacks.

Ergo, Jimmy helped the team by dunking.

I think they should just fine the player $10,000 for an excessive celebration. Let them give it to a charity or whatnot. Could allow a player to decide if it's worth it or not.

Don't flag the team or adjust a possible outcome of the game when after a score the game is "paused" anyways.

If JG had found a way to circumvent the rule e.g. bouncing the ball off his helmet through the uprights or drop kicking the ball through the posts, whatever then that's on him. He put his coach in an embarrassing spot and his team in a hole . He didn't do it once he did it twice obviously without Payton's approval. Where do you draw the line. This organizations success was built from the team concept. Running back by committee , right player in the right situation, maturity and ego's in check. You do what's necessary to put a W in the win column. I much prefer letting Payton make the decisions for this team. Jimmy's still a little immature for that.
