Heroic strikes should drop engrams. Engrams decode based on your light level. Blues and purples have the chance to go up to 300 light. You won't get higher than 300 though.
Nightfall has the chance to drop up to 310 items, with 300 happening a good bit. You only can do that once per week though.

ok, so what I need to do is run a nightfall every week, and then find a group to do raids with? Sounds good
