Marilyn Manson Appreciation Thread

Portrait of an American Family
Smells Like Children
Antichrist Superstar
Mechanical Animals
Holywood (in the valley of the shadow of death)
ALL underrated albums IMO bc Manson gets so much hate for various reasons, but all these albums are timeless and masterpieces (esp the as,ma,hw reverse trilogy)
I've been reliving my angry teen rebellion years lately, I love these albums more than I should.
After holywood he did go to complete shite though
I remember when Antichrist came out (and even somewhat Smells Like Children) being produced by reznor, how much stigma was placed on those albums, I used to honestly be scared of some of the tracks, but I loved it. My dad HATED him.
Also I think Antichrist Superstar is one of the best albums of the 90s, doesn't get enough love either. There's so much hidden in that album it's unreal (like the sound after irresponsible hate anthem, which the linear notes says it was recorded in 1997, at the time the album came out that was the future), and it's segue into the intro of the beautiful people (that weird time bend sound before the drums kick in, is actually the sound of time travel or time folding into itself.)
Being helmed by T.Reznor and coming out 2 years after the downward spiral, this album to me is pretty much TDS part 2, u can hear Reznor's influence all over it, and it's probably MM's definitive album.
But from that first track (we hate love, we love hate chant which in itself is brilliant if u really think about it) to after the man that u fear (hugely underrated song) on track 99 completing the perfect loop of the album distorted voice saying "when u are suffering, know that I have betrayed you" which folds back into track 1 briefly.
U guys got any Manson stories? I might get a lot of hate for this thread but jamming his albums recently (well all until up to HolyWood) I realized how important he was to mainstream infiltration, with all the protests and shite at his shows, MTV jumping on the bandwagon, then banning his videos, proving his points exact "hey vitcim, let me black your eyes again, hey vitcim, u are the one who put the stick in my hand"
Oh and Dope Hat constantly playing on the Box back in the day
I was thinking about the whole manson arc the other day and was wondering was he the last "shock rocker" of this generation? Will there ever be another one mysterious as he was during his heyday? Considering the way the world is now with social networks, camera phones, and oversharing? Was he the last true shock rocker ever and does/will anyone stir up as much hate as he did? (He was basically single handily blamed for columbine even though it eventually came out that Harris and pleb old hated him.)
I know u guys got manson stories/memories
Let the hatred fly

The only good albums he made are the ones Reznor produced. I agree Antichrist Superstar is really good, Portrait of an American Family is decent too. He did a good job keeping his name in the news during the late 90s, that really helped his popularity.
As for other shock rockers, ICP was really hated back then but never got quite as big as him. Still they put out a few platinum and gold albums and headline a festival with 10,000+ people every year. I can't see Manson doing that today.
Basically I think Manson was all image and very little substance.

In 2001 on the GGG tour I was front row at the house of blues in new Orleans in front of Twiggy, Manson poured water in his mouth and over his face and spit it all out into my face while my mouth was open.
I went and got checked for stds.
I liked antichrist superstar the best. Reminds me of the mid 90's angst.

I lean toward that, but go back and listen to mechanical animals (highly underrated, and funny bc I hated it when it came out) and HolyWood (no one ever talks about this one either and it's amazing, fueled by the columbine crap he got)
Both if those are just as good if not better than AC and I love that album, and actually those three albums are a trilogy and are of the same story, in reverse order, it's pretty damn brilliant if u can sit through them all and follow the characters he made.

The Triptych comprises three records Marilyn Manson released between 1996 and 2000: 1996's Antichrist Superstar, 1998's Mechanical Animals and 2000's Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death). Each album represents some semi-autobiographical aspect of Manson himself, and although made up of three records, it is considered one body of work by Manson and the fanbase

Manson's best work was anything he did with Reznor, including the Lost Highway soundtrack.
I enjoyed Manson when I was a teen but not so much anymore. However, I'm a huge NIN fan. Reznor f*cking rules.

In my opinion, the best music Manson made with Trent was when they were living and recording in New Orleans.
Antichrist superstar and the downward spiral are my favorites from each band. i associate a large part of my teen years with those albums. Smells like children was a great remix and cover album too.

aside from antichrist superstar, you could make a best of album or two out of all the other records. Lots of duds, but he has at least one great song on each album, sometimes two.

I agree, NIN/Renor is my all time favorite band,
Id also say that Trent's best stuff came out of Nothing Studios, down on magazine st. At the converted funeral parlor he called home for a while.
The entire Fragile album, the rehearsals for fragility 1.0 and 2.0, and one of a much overlooked great album, Still.
NOLA has music voodoo/spirits/energy to it, if you can feed off it and manipulate it right u get results like these.

Portrait of an American Family is the best pure rock album of the 90's, and might be the best since it's release.
Antichrist Superstar has some decent tracks, but isn't bear as good.
Everything else I've heard from them (him)= meh at best
But I haven't heard much.
He came around in tour a year or two ago, and I thought about checking it out. Looked up some of his set lists, and saw ZERO songs from POAAF.
frick him
