I did have a question about how the subs work - do I assume correctly that in the event that, lets say this week I run a 3-4-3 and my first sub is a midfielder - if a defender does NOT play, then I can't use any subs at all (since replacing a defender would make it a bad formation)? Or would it go to sub 2.

Example:

DEF - Lovren
DEF - Johnson
DEF - Skrytel

Sub 1. - Gerrard
Sub 2. Terry

If Johnson doesn't play, and Gerrard can't sub for him or else its an illegal formation, does it4 just end there? Or does Sub 2 come in for Johnson?

Or am I only able to use sub 2 if sub 1 is used elsewehere first?

I'm just trhying to think through some of my sub ramifcations - for instance, if I use a 3-4-3, I better make my first sub a defender at all times, right?

You would go to sub 2 in that case. Basically you plug in sub 1 if it keeps a legit lineup, if not go to sub 2, 3, etc.

Sorry, originlally posted outside of the 8am opening of the window and edited and then re-edited to add it at 8am - which is weird to me - if its consequetive days, shouldn't it be allowed 24 hours a day once it opens at 8am the first day?

It is 24 hours on Thursday in most cases. A typical week has games on Saturday-Monday. The transfer window opens at 8 AM Central and stays open continuously until Friday night at 11:59 PM.

The formation does not matter as long as it is legal. You post a 4-3-3 and sub in guys to make it a 4-4-2. All three subs are eligible to play in the order they listed. The rules in the OP should do a good job of explaining it.

If you start three defenders and one does not play, then that defender can only be replaced by a defender (since every formation needs any combo of 3-5 DEF, 3-5 MID, 1-3 FWD). If a forward also does not play in your 3-4-3, then he can be replaced by any eligible sub.

Sub 1 should always be used first if possible. If Sub 1 cannot be used, then go to Sub 2. Same for Sub 3. All three subs can be used if needed. The goalie is automatically subbed in.
