I am by no means saying that plotspike isn't any good cause I have never tried it but the coating on the other seed brands are an innoculant which promotes growth for a better stand and yield in legumes. Basically it is like a fertilizer attached to the seed you can read about it here.

All of which occur naturally and are not worth the loss of 50% of the seed. White clover has as much as 800,000 seed per pound. Putting a coating on it takes 400000 seed per pound out of the bag. Inoculants are bacteria that do occur naturally and clovers are host of those bacteria. You can buy a bag of inoculant for $5 that will treat 100 lbs of seed and you will see some difference early in the life of the plant but after a few weeks the natural colonies multiply to the point there is little difference between the inoculated and the seed that are not inoculated. Certainly not enough difference to plant half as much seed.

Inoculants also die.

Seed companies that use them could put them on at 1% of weight of the seed but they put on clay and some inoculant to make up 50% of the weight. It is snake oil.

Trust me on this one.
