Serious questions about spending priorities at LSU.

Please use your internet anonymity to be completely honest here. I am interested in the answers.
Do you, as an LSU fan and TD poster, really care about anything that happens on the academic side of LSU?
Does it bother you that state funding has put LSU into a giant hole financially that it is having to dig its way out of? Do things like faculty salaries even make a blip on your radar screen?
Do you care that there are academic buildings on campus with the ceilings caving in, that can be fully renovated for $15 million, but we just spent $90 million on a new south endzone? (Please spare me the speeches about return on investment, I know all of that.)
I'm just asking if you care, or if you think academics and athletics are completely separate universes. If athletics is all you care about, it's okay to admit.

How much of that did TAF pay for?

I care about LSU's academic quality. I also know that the massive profitability of the football program enhances that quality.

I care about Net Income, and that is all I care about.

I care about those things. I don't like to see my university in the condition it's in now but that should be changing within the next few years with the larger freshman classes year after year for the past few years. Record enrollment numbers = more funding.

The TAF pays for stadium renovations. It doesn't come out of tuition.

My thoughts:
GFY. DIAF.
Once the art department can produce something that can support itself, then they can have a new ceiling.

I care about both, but not as much about the academics anymore. The thing about the spending on athletic facilities is that it is money raised primarily by TAF that is set aside for specific athletic purposes, not academic.
Although the atheltic department and academic department share a campus and name, they are about as separate as they can possibly be while still maintaining NCAA eligibility.

The new Animal and Food Sciences Building looks nice.
Also, remember, LSU is not just LSU Baton Rouge.

The athletic department is completely self-sufficient and donates a lot of money to the school.
Not their fault the school can't use that money to repair its facilities the way the athletic department does.
Why did we need a new Business school? CEBA isn't bad. Money would have been better spent rehabbing that.

1. The south endzone expansion will soon pay for itself with the added suite revenue.
2. The renovations for that caved-in building are already planned.
3. Funding for athletics does not come from the state. Athletics is entirly self-sustaining and also supports the university financially on top of that.
4. I care very much about the state of academics as well as athletics and plan to contribute to the department i graduated from for years to come.

I care about the academics side but LSU is never going to be Vanderbilt. If they can continue to maintain Tier 1 research status, along with ranking somewhere around top third of public universities, LSU should consider that a win.
The way this state's budget is allocated for Education is embarrassing but not far fetched if you look at the public school system in BR Metro.
With that said, LSU should prioritize a few academic disciplines, such as sciences, business or mathematics instead of a jack of all trades college if they want to excel. We don't have the resources to be great at everything.

frick the art students. Give the science, business, and engineering students everything possible for them to succeed. If some dopehead art frick wants anything, tell him to make something of his life and then he can reap the benefits from the university.

The funding problem is due to too many hands in the cookie jar. We support too many universities in the state that don't produce much of any value.
Faculty should be paid what they're worth. Top researchers' salaries, who makes advances in science, should dwarf those english lit professors.

People like you need to quit running your mouth about the athletic department. They are self sufficient and get no money from the university but instead give millions back.
The university has nothing to do with the athletic departments finances.

I think Les Miles, the athletic department and TAF should "share the wealth" with the academic department. Stop being so greedy.

I think LSU should be better academically than it is. I think it is underfunded and run by incompetent people who are ok with the status quo.
Of course I care as an alumnus.
