Saw this earlier today. Back it up with evidence from the actual book and I'll believe it.

Certainly is plausible, i've always just assumed they didn't take the eagles because it just wouldn't wouldn't work between the Eye and Nazguls

That is some serious leap in logic.

The movie was boring enough. I'm not going to read all that shite.

It's not a plot hole. The eagles aren't mindless beasts for Gandalf to order around, they are highly intelligent beings whom aren't concerned with the affairs of mortals.

Reading the additional Tolkien works would give these "plot hole" folks some enlightenment.

I always thought Gandalf was worried about Sauron's anti-eagle defenses.

Why didn't God just put the tree of knowledge outside Adam and Eve's reach?

That's why they didn't ask the eagles to fly the ring to Mount Doom. Tolkien was writing a mythology about the creation of the world. It was about how the supernatural guided men into assuming control.

That person totally missed the point of the whole quest. Even the most seemingly insignificant person can change the world.

I always thought that the eagles would have been detected by Sauron and he would have placed a heavy guard in and around the mountain to prevent the ring getting to the fires/lava. You'd think he would have some people/arcs/other creatures on standby around there. I don't think the eagles could have gotten into that cave so they would have had to drop someone to do the last part anyway.

Of course if Sauron was smart he would have definitely either placed an extremely heavy guard around any entry ways to the fire/lava and/or put some heavy walls or doorways in the way. That way Frodo would have had a lot harder time than just walking in.

Im pretty sure there has always been an answer and its pretty obvious if you read The Hobbit.

The eagles are not pets, they are they own people and are VERY Proud. They care little for the worlds of men and only help out Gandalf when they do because they owe him and respect him.

They are not his or any humans fricking taxi service and will not be called on to carry some little shite halfway across the world, through the most dangerous realm around to help when the humans war in which they take no sides.

Am I wrong here?

It's because the eagles are hyperintellegent noble solitary beings that rarely fight any battles because they're powerful enough to be above the petty squabbles that happen below the mountains. And there's also the problem of the Nazgul. Which are ferocious fighters riding giant pterodactyl dragons.
