Historically the Unites States has been sympathetic to the oppression of people and a promoter of freedom, but we're supposed to look the other way in Gaza where you have nearly 2 million people impoverished and severely restricted, if not imprisoned by israel that are getting bombed and cannot escape?

Theres a clear dichotomy.

Obama is hostile to Bibi and his coalition, which is the most extreme and racist government in the history of Israel, but he's still very friendly to Israel. FYI, every administration, Democrat and Republican, has had problems getting along with Likud. If Obama treated Bibi like Reagan treated Begin, he'd be impeached.

He is friendy because he has to be. There is too much pro-israel sentiment within the moderate part of his party.

Also, I don't understand how you can say that Carter was hostile to Israel when he's responsible for securing an Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty, thus eliminating the biggest existential threat to Israel's existence.

Post office politics.

we aren't supposed to support people who fire rockets into civilian centers purposely to kill civilians. NO matter how oppressed the people they claim to represent are. The blockade, the bombings are all brought on by Hamas.

Historically America is supposed to support democracies like Israel and stand up to terrorists like Hamas. America always said we don't negotiate with terrorists. is this a pipe dream from the past?

Be wary of rah rah sayings. I wish we truly didn't negotiate with terrorists.

The Catholics in Northern Ireland engaged in terrorism and we supported their cause. The Blacks in South Africa engaged terrorism and we supported their cause. And let's not forget that we supported the creation of the state of Israel despite the fact that founding fathers of the state of Israel engaged in terrorism, and Israel has had three Prime Ministers (Begin, Shamir and Sharon) whose hands are drenched in blood. The Palestinians are no different, their cause is just despite the fact that some of their tactics are despicable.

Like Saudi Arabia, the Shahdom of Iran, countless South American juntas, the Ba'ath party before they were no longer of use, Mubarak's Egypt, etc.,

Then based on what you said, the ISIS people fighting for a free (in their mids iraq) are OK. The people who crashed into the ETC downtown are OK because they saw their cause as just. Everybody thinks their cause is just. Fidel Castro thinks he was right. George Wallace thought he was right. When do we choose who we support? is it based on whom you pick and choose?

Just as Bin Laden/Al Queda wants the world to associate Islam with radical Islam, Zionists want the world to connect Zionism with Judaism.

The more people learn to realize that Zionism/Israel is a racist machine, the more they will distinguish the chasm between Zionists and Jews.

Israel will always be the homeland of the Jews, but the State of Israel will change or suck us into it's black hole of death.

You're missing my point. Of course everyone who resorts to terrorism thinks their cause is just, but what distingishes the Palestinians from ISIS and Al Qaeda, is that like the Catholics of Northen Ireland and the Blacks of South Africa, the U.S. government position is that their cause if just, while it doesn't believe that ISIS and Al Qaeda are figthing for a just cause. Can you not see the difference?

The OP is taking quite easily one of the most atrocious crimes in history, and speculating that his American Jewish friends may wanna watch the liberal left, seeing that the stars are aligning for a genocidal attempt on them again.

I've done nothing of the sort. I have posed some questions and tried to generate some thought.

Whether or not the American Left will abandon American Jews when it's politically advantageous for the American Left to do so is up to American Jews to decide.

Nobody is a s nutty as McCain but I think we needed to be stronger in Eastern Europe and with North Korea. That has absolutely nothing to do with Israel. Neither does standing up to Putin re Ukraine.

Did I pass the Trackfan litmus test?

Seems like reasonable views to me.

This is categorically a stupid thing to say and to insinuate. It is fear-mongrels like you that don't need to be heard from on sensitive subjects like these. AND, you are a coward. Why not just come out and say what you think? Tell them based on your twisted logic, that all Jews are at risk of another genocidal attempt on their ethnicity, this time by America. Very sad, obscene, and insensitive statement to make. Sow your seeds of hate and discord elsewhere.
Without question the single most stupid post I've seen on this message board. I won't bother explaining the purpose of this board. I'll just encourage you to think about the purpose of this board, and the OP in relation to the purpose.

Are you suggesting that I am an anti-Semite and a racist simply because I do not support the policies of the Israeli government?

Israel is here to stay. Why anybody would wish for the destruction, elimination, or dissolution of Israel is beyond me personally.

But, this point is not really within the topic I first raised, which was intended to focus on US domestic politics.
