I'd say 7 feet apart is the min. Also posts should be 1/3 under ground. There is no absolute depth. It's a function of height.

I just built one...150 long. Set posts 8 feet apart, but dug holes 2.5 feet deep. Used 8 foot 4x4 and 6 foot slats. Use coated screws. Total material cost about $1500.
