Santa Fe or Sedona?

Choosing between one in late October early November.
Both look like awesome places...
Just seeing if anybody feels strongly one way or another that may have been to Both?
I want to hike and sightsee which seems better in Sedona, but also would like to walk around town and eat out which seems better in Santa Fe!
Where should I go?

The surrounding area is beautiful, but the town of Santa Fe feels like a giant tourist trap.

A friend of mine just came back from Sedona. He loved it. He said it's like another planet it's so beautiful.

Not a fan of either. They're both serious tourist traps by now.
Perhaps a little less so would be Taos, but for all I know it could be just as bad.
Non-tourist traps out that way get harder and harder to find.

Can only speak on Santa Fe, but we loved it. Clean, with lots of culture and great food. We actually drove up to Taos the next day. Beautiful drive. Choice of high road (mountains), or low road (runs alongside Rio Grande). Taos is small, secluded resort town. You can research it if you haven't.

Sedona
Never been to Santa Fe though
Plus....you can drive less than 45 minutes north up to Flagstaff and walk around their little downtown area. Just an awesome little town and more great hiking trails there.

Are you a minivan or an SUV kind of guy?

At that time of the year, Sedona for sure. A couple months earlier I would say Santa Fe.

I've never been to Santa Fe, but have been to Sedona and can't wait to go back. There are many shops and restaurants on the strip and the views are awesome. Sort of a hippie/ new age town though.

I haven't been to santa fe, but did take nurse's reccomendation while on business in phoenix and went up to Sedona...turned out to be a very cool place to visit. the scenery is just stunning and the drive up through the desert is just as beautiful. I don't care much for hippies, but most there were very nice and a couple showed me "the flatulence of the earth" for just a few bucks...
I would certainly recommend sedona...but it might be pretty cold that time of year, so dress accordingly...

I lived in Prescott for 3 years which is about an hour away from Sedona. I definitely suggest it.

Sedona is unique and beautiful. Never been to SF.

Sedona. It's like Gatlinburg if you were in a desert

Santa Fe is a beautiful town, but I think the artsy people may have ruined it.
I have never been to Sedona, but I think it might be almost the same way...from a few things I have heard.
If You like beautiful desert mountain views, incredible color and scenery, in a place without any high brow pretense, go to Moab, Utah.

Been to both.
Sedona by a mile. It's a bit odd, but not as fake as Santa Fe IMHO.
The spiritual stuff is spot on. There's a university there that specializes in Metaphysics.
Added benefit of flagstaff being 45 miles away and the Grand Canyon being 2 hours away.
ETA: I heard there had been fires, but did not see anything affected while I was there 2 weeks ago.
