If you plant him, he will grow.

I Wikipedia'd it, and they didn't really make it sound like who his father was was a big deal. Didn't even have his own Wiki page

I googled it yesterday and there are a couple variations on who his father is. Common theme is he's the son of some alien ruler or prince, don't know if that ruler/prince was god-like.

Yeah I think he's not important besides the fact that he makes starlord half god or immortal or whatever.
I'm assuming that little line drop about "I'm glad we didn't deliver him to his dad" or whatever is foreshadowing something in the next one for a little further character development and he will find out about his father and maybe meet him.

Definitely. Between that and the random body scan that they did that showed he's only half human, id say his dad will be big in the next one
He's either the villian for the next one or the reason the defeat whoever the villian is IMO

I was thinking the unopened gift would be a clue to finding his father, but the 2nd mix tape worked well.

My allergies were acting up during the opening scene with his mom.

I feel like an idiot now. For some reason I thought Thanos was a the bad guy in Avengers 2 not Ultron (I haven't been paying attention to anything about that movie [not even the title apparently] and with the whole infinity gauntlet in Thor2 and Thanos in Avengers1) so I was really pumped they were hyping him up in this movie.
Oh well, I guess he will be in Avengers 3.

Yeah I was like GRAB HER HAND MAN!
That was quite a shocking scene to see after going through 10 Disney previews and a theater full of kids

Interesting fact:
Vin Diesel was the voice of Groot in english, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, French and Russian.

That sobering scene probably helped shut up all the little brats.

i liked it but honestly it wasn't as funny as i thought it was going to be. i was expecting rocket to be funnier. bautistas literalness was the funniest part. groot was my favorite...i wonder how much vin diesel got paid to say 3 words the whole movie

If you count the time he said "we are Groot" that makes 5 words, and worth every cent.

Just got back. I'm sorry, but I just didn't care for it. I didn't think it was possible to squeeze that many cliches and formulas into one movie, but they pulled it off. I'm an older guy, so I guess I've just seen the formulas enough times to recognize them, and it was one after another. Same old devices and gimmicks, different platform.
The acting was bland, and I really don't get why they had to cram as many names into this movie as was possible. For example, why did they need Vin Diesel to play Groot. shite, I could have done that for fifty bucks. The lead guy was funny, but a little over the top, and Cooper was a bit disappointing to me as Rocket. Also, apparently Zooey Saldana is the go to actress when you need an alien chick, for some reason. I could just hear the suits spouting their pablum in some board room somewhere, totally devoid of original thought.
The plot was completely scatterbrained, and it's development felt hurried and incomplete. I'm sure that a reader of the comics felt right at home, but to be honest, when they adapt a movie from a comic or book, the audience shouldn't have to be familiar with the source material to enjoy it.
Still, it had a few funny moments, the Jackson Pollack joke being the best line, but that also begs the question - how does he even know who that is (or Footloose, for that matter) if he was about seven years old when they snatched him up, coincidentally, right outside of the hospital, right after his mother dies?

I think you might be putting a little too much thought into your critique if this film. It is supposed to be over the top and a bit silly. You've probably just got a stick up your butt.

I read the thread and knew this would be the response. I had high expectations, and lately, I've found that my enjoyment is directly related to my expectations going in. If I think a movie will suck, I'm always pleasantly surprised, and vice versa.
Just too many cliches. For example, when the green guy kills everyone around him with his magic pen, or whatever that was, and the camera pulls out so the audience can see all of his enemies drop simultaneously. I've just seen that a thousand times.
