Given the climate in Egypt, I really am surprised they have just sat and watched this.

They are letting the IDF do their dirty work funded by the American taxpayer. Win for them.

How does Netanyahu get Egypt to participate in the blockade of Gaza? It must be all those Zionists in the Egyptian government that he has influence over.

Why does Israel treat Hamas differently than Fatah? If Hamas adopted policies similar to Fatah do you think Israel might treat them more alike?

Do you think Fatah is pleased with the way they're being treated on the West Bank?

Weapons are only a fraction of the materials that are smuggled through the tunnels which are primarily used to deliver ordinary items such as food and medicine that are denied Gazans due to the blockade.

Look, I deplore what is going on. And I am praying for peace between the two factions. But are you trying to tell me the Palestinians were literally being starved by the Israelis prior to the current conflict? Because I am going to need a link (independent, verifiable) for that.

When have I defended Hamas?

I have said I hope the IDF kicks the shite out of them. I also don't praise Israel which does not mean defend Hamas.

Child labor? Really?

you mean you're surprised?

but @ 3Mill per tunnel, those chillerns must be getting well paid right?

so we have another reason for our left-gres-tards to praise the muzzy terrorists, like Obummer, they insist on higher minimum wage.

just ignore that on the last day of work they are instructed to strap on a vest of dynamite and run out of the tunnels far end.

I'm really very puzzled how a predominantly conservative board, that is presumably in favor of free markets and against foreign aid, can fail to connect the dots here. Nevertheless, I'll try to lay this out once again.

Israel blockaded construction materials from Gaza under a dual-use provision. This means that the only cement, lumber, and steel that was allowed in was "to facilitate construction projects in Gaza which have been authorized by the PA [PA in Gaza = Hamas]"

Now game this out. Why is trade generally a better idea than foreign aid? Because aid can be skimmed by kleptocrats while trade empowers the private sector.

It makes less than no sense to say "we have to keep the blockade because terror tunnels!" The blockade has been in place for seven years, and that hasn't stopped the tunnels, has it? All it has done is wiped out the private sector in Gaza. 100% of the construction materials that go in above-ground go through Hamas. No amount of "international inspection" is going to prevent those materials from being diverted into tunnels. All you're doing is ensuring that the Palestinians who don't want to build tunnels, such as your restaurateurs, your landlords, your legitimate industrialists, the people who would rather not play ball with Hamas, can't get their hands on shite. (Especially because Hamas also has a hand in most of the unauthorized smuggling as well.)

When you outlaw concrete, only outlaws get concrete.

that last link states that they used a guideline of 2300 per person in Gaza to ensure the blockade let enough food in.

What is wrong with that? Show me a malnourished person who eats 2300 calories per day.

If Gaza didn't distribute that food adequately, then I'm missing how that is Israel's problem.

There are other arguments to be had here for sure, but saying that Israel is intentionally starving Gaza to death is false.

Why would they limit their food intake at all? What kind of sick game is that? Why make food so scarce they everyone gets barely enough food to survive? What's wrong with you folks?

Thanks. Second two links are a bit more trustworthy (international media). The first, not so much. Reading through them now.

I am definitely moving towards the center on this issue. Want the fighting to stop and the Palestinians to cease rocket and terror attacks on Israel, but they are living like caged animals.

Not good.

Wolfhound45, you sound like a reasonable and open person to me. When you get an hour to blow, take a look at this youtube video and listen to this speech by the son of a former IDF general. It will clear up a lot of misconceptions people have about Israel & Palestine.

Its about ethnic cleansing

I'm guessing that Hamas' budget breakdown is similar.

Wishcasting perhaps, because you don't know do you???????????????????????????????

Now exactly why would Egypt object to food and medicine coming into Gaza from Egypt????
