Sempra Energy secures loans for Cameron Parish project

Sempra Energy and its partners are expected to pull the trigger next week on building a proposed $10 billion liquefied natural gas export facility in Cameron Parish, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Cameron LNG has secured $7.5 billion in loans for the project, which will ship natural gas to Japan. The facility will be able to ship 13.1 million tons of LNG per year, and Japanese firms have already agreed to buy 8.8 million tons of production. LNG has become an important fuel source for Japan since the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear-power disaster.

The Sempra plant in Cameron Parish is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs and 140 full-time jobs and bring $10 billion in development to the economy of Southwest Louisiana.

I must say I have mixed feelings about these export projects. I've enjoyed my low gas bills these past several winters.

I worked a lot on the Golden Pass project out in Port Arthur about 7-8 years go. They are huge facilities, and huge labor forces are needed to construct them. I think the original part of Cameron was built around that time.

Cameron still doesn't have FERC approval but I believe they are next in line.

There is also Lake Charles Liquefaction (BG Group & Energy Transfer), still in application process

Fished down there back in June with my old boss. We're both CPA's, but he's a ton better at stock picking.

He told us about that place, and how the stock had taken a really wild wide over the last two years, maybe? Said he could kick himself in the arse over not taking it at some price, at which he thought it was still a little overvalued. Seems like he said it's doubled since then, and this was "pre" this announcement.

Anyone familiar w/the history of that stock here can expound.

This has been in the works for 5-6 years now. I remember an associate of mine telling me about it when the initial planning was in the works. Glad to see it come to fruition.

Yup.....been knowing about it for awhile. We do ALOT of work in Calcasieu.

The entire region will be exploding with economic growth.

Eta: CB&I have called me for advice on some issues, but I wouldn't count them out yet. And, that's after I've had to clean up some of their shite work in Texas.
