let me go further back

North Carolina 2010 (very good matchup until half their starters got suspended)
West Virginia 2010
@ Washington 2009
2008 no-one
Virginia Tech 2007
Arizona 2006
Fresno State 2006
@ Arizona State 2005
Oregon State 2004
@ Arizona 2003
@ Virginia tech 2002
no-one 2001
no-one 2000

so we have in the 21st century played at-least one quality opponent each year. Either ranked or BCS conference.

So we should be satisfied with playing one BCS OOC team (even if they aren't good) in most years? And, of course, about half the games you list were away games anyway, and UNC was neutral site.

Also, nitpick but Fresno state 2006 was 4-8 in a midmajor conference. If that's a "premier" game we're in worse trouble than I thought.

You should go ask Les on the Tiger Tour why we're not playing 2 BCS OOC teams a year on a regular basis?

I know this sounds a little crazy, but perhaps Miles is reluctant to go that route because we're in the best division in football with Florida as our permanent cross-divisional game

Having a tough ooc schedule in football doesnt help an SEC team.

Yeah, I'm sure they will really be receptive to letting you ask that question.

"Why don't you schedule some actual teams instead of making your fans suffer through shitty home games and wasting all our time/money."

That will go over swell.

I know the reasons, I just don't like them. Boo hoo, we might lose. Well, shite, I know an easy way to solve that, let's shut down the program entirely - we'll never lose again! We can print up some "undefeated since 1939" tshirts like they sell at the Loyola bookstore.

Sarcasm aside, I have higher expectations for LSU football than "not lose to Sam Houston State." And I would actually prefer watching a hard-fought game against Oklahoma State - even with the risk of loss - rather than a 49-3 whomping of some team I've never heard of.

that's exactly how you should frame it.

Les can explain it to you on a third-grade level that's insanely idiotic to play 2 high profile OOC BCS teams to complement our SEC schedule.

Well yeah, in my fantasy world LSU's schedule looks like NCAA 2015 football dynasty schedule.

But these coaches are under constant scrutiny and pressure. They're not going to make the road to the national title more difficult than it already is for the appeasement of the fans

People already cry when we lose 2 games a season. Will a harder schedule fix that?

When we playing in the most powerful division of the most powerful football conference in college football? Yes!

Before you get too upset over our OOC games you might want to check out who Fla., Auburn, Bama and the like are putting on their OOC schedules.

alabama
auburn
florida
texas a&m

some years UGA south carolina etc

lemme guess you want to play 3 top 25 teams besides this and God forbid we lose a game or look bad winning. that's when its time to fire the coach, huh?

i'm ok with 2 out of 4 but only if one is a challenge and one is a sure thing.

LSU doesn't need harder schedules when half the fans want the coach fired once he loses 1 or 2 games.

this isn't rocket science.

It's not "insanely idiotic" for fans to want to watch games that are interesting and evenly matched, rather than glorified scrimmages whose result is preordained months ahead of time.

I didn't imply that. Having one quality OOC opponent a year is just enough in football.

that's ok if you don't expect championships.

NFL games are entertaining and SB champions lose 3-6 games most years.

but bama plays 3 entertaining games a yr

Yeah we should definitely strive to play 12 evenly matched games every football season.

We're not the Seattle Seahawks. These college athletes are exhausted by the end of the season with our current format, much less 12 evenly played games.

We'd be the laughing stock of college football if we were dumb enough to play 4 BCS OOC games

Who is forcing you to spend money on tickets?

Well I agree more broadly that it's not an LSU-specific problem, it's a system-wide problem, and I think the solution is going to have to be NCAA-wide. But here we're talking about LSU. I'm not a Florida fan, so if Florida puts together a boring home schedule, it doesn't affect me in the least.

Nobody, which is exactly the problem. If I (along with several thousand of my closest buddies) decide next year that season tickets are no longer worth it - and with these schedules, I might - that is a very serious issue for the AD. They just added a ton of seats to that stadium, and I'm guessing they would like them to be full, or at least paid for.
