Yep, ill take a cakewalk for a title
Posted on 7/29/14 at 10:33 am to Old Money
except the last time we came close to a title we had a fairly legit schedule with us starting the year with oregon. The game set the tone for the year.
also with how good our team is a middle of the road non conference team should be a fairly easy game.

I guess that's one way of putting it.

His job description entails more than just making money.
If that's the case lets just move all our non SEC games to a neutral site. Give me a fricking break with the gate argument

No shite. He's also improving facilities left and right and has facilitated the hiring of phenomenal assistants in all three major sports. I'm sorry you don't understand that you need money to do that, but don't take it out on me.

Did I say I was displeased with any of that?

Its a good recruiting tool. I know my friend who plays at a sunbelt school says he'd kill to play at an NFL stadium. The guys love it.
what a stupid argument. now at least we know that we'll win the recruiting battles against sunbelt teams. lucky for us Tulane moved out of the superdome.

My problem is they build this addition and now can not sell it out. My TAF money and ticket money went to building that addition. How do I get repaid?
Wtf, there was a dividend check expected

No, but maybe there are some 15-45 ranked teams that might be interested. Hell of a lot better than what we've got!

How does it cost money to schedule better games?

You have to pay the team for an appearance or do a home and away. So you would be giving up a home game (costing $$) or paying a team a much higher price.
2 neutral site games make more money than a home and away.

Because you can't just get decent competition to come into Tiger Stadium without them expecting something in return. This generally comes in the form of a return trip to their stadium. When you visit someone else's stadium for a game, you make basically no money on it. Therefore, forgoing a future home game and giving the other team a return trip to their stadium costs you money relative to other options (such as the neutral site games or scheduling rent-a-wins)

That's true if you are trying to bring in a marquee team to Tiger Stadium. But there are plenty of teams with more fan appeal that could be had for marginally more move than what we have been getting . The whole point is that LSU's most loyal fans deserve better. We all understand the need for increased revenue, but some compromises could be made with a little more effort from the athletic dept in my opinion.

No, no they didn't. If they did, they would make it happen. Instead, you're paying exorbitant prices to watch the 3rd world of college football get pummeled in the first quarter.
It's just a money grab. Next year we go to the mighty Syracuse to play them away.
This is who is in charge of your Athletic Department.
Why should you waste your valuable time going to a game when you could be cureing cancer or something useful?
Big name teams are begging to sacrifice their own home gate revenue just to play in Tiger Stadium. They love to play in front of half full stadiums in the second half.

but trying hard to make it more fan friendly and some cheaper game and parking options. Nicholson contra flow southbound in one direction should help traffic. Maybe some concessions will go down
Until the paid fans get better tailgate and parking treatment than the non-paying fans (only there to get shitefaced and tailgate) we are going to have more and more people choosing the home tv experience. It just doesn't serve the regular joe LSU fan to go to games and fight to get there, park, get a tailgate site, pay for anything in the stadium, pay for seats, fight people and traffic to leave.
Home TV experience will become more and more appealing to even the best fans if they don't get better for their time and money investment.

This is where I'm not really convinced. I don't think any team that you'd likely consider worthwhile would take marginally more than Sam Houston just to come and likely get beat by us.
By "more fan appeal" I'm assuming you mean some kind of mid-range teams from power conferences, or something along those lines. These teams aren't stupid. They're all trying to make their way to the top and they don't get there by always allowing themselves to go into hostile environments like Tiger Stadium and get beat. They will either want a significant payday to make it worth their while, or they want to bring the big boys back to their own stadium. See our deals with teams like Washington and WVU (although they ended up being very good when we played, I'd still consider them mid-range overall).
