I think that seeing as how Hard Knocks is at our camp it is a very good indication that Smith does not have much say right now. Blank told him "this is happening". Smith didn't even like the cameras following the Bengals for that scrimmage in Flowery Branch. He sure as hell didn't sign off on the idea. He is on the hot seat right now.

Oddly enough Roddy white said he was going to avoid the cameras. Didn't expect that.
Blank is doing a lot of things to pump up the brand of the Falcons (hard knocks, London home team game, new stadium etc). Granted none of these things will make the team play better (probably worse for this year), but I am not sure if I can call out Blanks decisions when it comes to business and marketing.
In the end, I predict us being sub playoff caliber, Smith losing his job and us rebuilding next year.

Which makes sense given Ryan's and Roddy's new contracts. We can't afford to lose Matty Ice or Roddy White if we enter a rebuilding process next season

I do believe Arthur has a spine and will do the right thing if we tank again. But I don't think we will. I think we're a wild card team.

What exactly does Mike Smith do anyway? He doesn't do the play calling for offense or defense. Is he just managing the coaches?

That might be hard this year. NFC North could be back in the hunt of sending 2 teams to the playoffs, and the NFC West will most likely be the other division sending 2 teams to the playoffs. NFC East is garbage. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it'll be tough sledding.

I think they're heading in the right direction to a degree. They were losing games in the trenches, and they really focused on that this off-season. I thought they overpaid a bit for Soilia and Jackson, but they needed to get stouter up front.
I just don't know if it's going to come together in time to save Smith's job. They kind of built that team backwards from the outside in.

Well, when UGA is 5 yards from an SEC title and BCSNC appearance and then the Falcons end 10 yards from the same GDMF'n endzone in the NFCCG a month later it fricking sucks.

See, everyone is quick to blame Smitty but the man made ATL what it is. Same people who defend Richt to a fault want Smitty axed. Sometimes it perplexes me.

I really think you have a point there. I am not looking at smith as a bad coach. Dimitroff certainly does need blame. But as I was saying, blank will want some franchise steam heading into the 2017 season and if we have a mediocre year heads will be rolling.

From my seat it seems Blank really likes Smith. My guess would be that he gets another year even if we miss the post season.

I get that but I also think Blank likes Smitty and I think he realizes a lot of the issues Atlanta has had involves roster management. I mean, their talent evaluations on both sides of the LOS the past few years have been fricking awful. You can get all the skill positions you want on offense but if Ryan is on his arse in 3 steps then what's the point? Same with bringing in Steven Jackson.
The defense, well, a good secondary is only as potent as their front 7 IYAM. fricking Akeem Dent was a major factor and I am a UGA fan and realize that's nuts. Not the case now but you get what I am saying.
My buddies' dad is a coach in the league and a while back he mentioned something to me that is as clear as day now but makes all the sense in the world. Coaches are in the spotlight and get fired like that but a coach is only as good as his scouts and GM and those guys sometimes are just completely locked in. One can only hope Pioli helps Dimitroff but IMO Dimitroff is garbage.
