Why are parishes on board with this but not the loop?

This is the southern loop Ascension and Iberville didn't want.

There's four or five bridges between ST. Francisville and NOLA.

well no one apparently wanted the Audubon Bridge in New Roads so they put it there. Not saying it wan't needed, but sure woulda been nice to have it south of the NMRB.

we don't know that they are. Yet. I'm sure WBR, IP, and AP would take a bypass, but you only have to deal with three parish's bullshite to get that done. Talk about a loop and you have 4-5 parishes that you have to placate.

espite that if DOTD added up all of the money they spent studying the project so many times, that money would equal or more than likely exceed the cost of a new bridge back when they first started studying it.

yea right.

The state just needs to abandon hope for Baton Rouge and build Lafayette a loop

definitely this. If only because there is still time to do it. I'd hate to see them make the same mistake in Laffy they did in BR.

Livingston Parish residents are furious you would even suggest that.

Had dinner last weekend with a couple of friends, one of whom lives in Denham. She probably spent 20 min talking about how the loop is a terrible idea that will destroy her property values and cause all sorts of crime to come to Denham Springs.

Grand parkway not a loop yet. Let's not get carried away

Houston has 2.15 loops

At least they had enough foresight to say, "oh shite, there's going to be a shitload of traffic going between the Katy freeway and Spring/Woodlands soon...let's go ahead an knock out that part of the grand parkway to keep that traffic from having to head in to town."

Baton Rouge would just let the traffic get worse, then do a study on why it got worse.

I think they are on board with the loop...they just wanted the bridge in a different place than some of the other parish presidents on the former BR Loop. I recall the Parish President of Iberville being outspoken that his parish needed the bridge - and not another one connecting WBR to EBR.

Truckers who regularly make the gulf coast 10/12 haul would love to bypass the BR abortion im sure,

so what do you think the loop would be? north of 10 (190) connecting to 55?

Southern loop is the only one that DOESNT make sense.

More trucks are coming from I-12 through denham. i49 will help with NO-TX traffic.

Step 1: upgrade Airline to interstate quality (overpasses at major interchanges, frontage roads, and atleast 2 continuous lanes in each direction.
Step 2: Upgrade the old bridge similar to what happened to the Huey P. Long bridge in nola
Step 3: build a connector from old bridge to I-10
Step 4: make it a toll road to pay for part of if not all of it.

better to have 5 years of clusterfrick due to construction than 40 years of clusterfrick because ppl sat on their hands.

Also pls do it while I am away in med school and won't be coming to br anytime soon.

ETA: An east side I-10 to I-12 connector would be part of a southern bypass. Build the 2 projects separtely so that there isn't as big of a NIMBY bitchfest.

As I've posted before about the BR loop, its going to take the governor taking a leadership role in this and him twisting some arms in the parishes effected.

The comment in the story from the plant manager claiming that they've lost employees because of commute times is as much an indictment on the availability of good, desirable housing and public schools on the west side as it is traffic on the east side.

You have absolutely no clue, sir. The reality is quite the opposite of your supposition.

Causation of the traffic problem is exacerbated by 2 facts:

1. The southern part of West Baton Rouge Parish, and a portion of Iberville Parish, are in effect an island bordered by the Mississippi River, Bayou Plaquemine and the Intra-Coastal Waterway. There are exactly 3 (!) bridges across these navigable waters - of which only one outlet goes north.

2. The schools, land affordability & housing, make this area near Baton Rouge one of the most attractive and affordable places to live. The population increase in the past 5 years have exacerbated the traffic problems of the constrictions identified in #1.

no shite. But I'd hate to see Laffy dick around like BR did and not do something to alleviate the cluster frick that is the Thruway and the rest of Laffy for that matter. Laffy traffic will only get worse.
BR seems to have pissed around too long to be able to do a loop now. Thats why the loop is a waste of time IMO. Address the issues with some sort of bypass- beit from 10/12 to the west side or just 10 to the west side.
