I've done it. If you don't have any down, just rent a floor grinder and get some diamond stones. If you need to take up old stuff, remember to dilute the muratic acid. I found that out the hard way and was regretting it for two weeks.
Get a kit that is as thick as possible with the most solids. I think I used a kit from epoxy-coat.com, but I'm not positive. Has held up very well to hot tires, oil, gasoline, coolant, and even a few wedding parties with no problems

We've been in the house six months and there's no coatings on the floor.
