Bladerunner was my favorite film, until I saw the (misnamed) "Director's Cut" of Bladerunner, which was my favorite film until I saw the (definitive) "Final Cut" (i.e. the real director's cut) of Bladerunner, which is my current, and likely to remain, favorite film of all time.

Its hard to ignore Harrison Ford's wooden acting. He's terrible.

The French Plantation is hugely important for adding context, depth, and a smoother transition to Kurtz's compound. It absolutely should have been left in the theatric cut.

The marooned playboy bunny monsoon scenes, the extra bit of Kilgore's men looking for Kilgore's surfboard... totally unnecessary and distracting. Deservedly cut.

All in all, an amazing movie you should definitely watch. It's much better if you have familiarity with Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" and understand that Apocalypse Now is Heart of Darkness retold in the setting of the Vietnam War. It's NOT supposed to be an accurate portrayal of the war. If you expect that, you won't get it. Vietnam is merely the device through which the director filmed Heart of Darkness.

You were able to find a soundtrack that included the dialogue? That sounds interesting.

Yep! It is a two disc set that has a lot of the dialogue, but not all. IT really does make for a fascinating listen in the dark.

Coppola was going for the French colonialism out of touch with reality angle. It was overdone but I get the message
