KC. They have a nice new arena waiting for a team.

KC is a possibility since they have the new arena. A lot of it depends on which city puts together the best subsidy/package. San Jose certainly could make it happen but then you're talking about a city that is close to the Warriors and Kings.

The intrigue with St. Louis is that its a big market and they have the Spirits ABA/NBA team that has been dormant for so long. It's a hilarious story since the owners have gotten hundreds of millions from NBA in TV rights for a team that hasn't played a game in 35 years.

I honestly think expansion will happen. The NBA thrives on disparity.

whats city #32?

If I had to place a coffee bet on it. My guesses would be that OKC proved that a smallish market team with solid corporate backing and minimal competition from other professional leagues in the market or state. The OKC group sort of laid out the blueprint for team ownership in the future.

I'd look for a city like Omaha, NE to have a solid shot at a team. They already have a nice 18,000 seat arena that Creighton basketball fills. A good number of Fortune 1000 companies located close, 5 Omaha corporations are Fortune 500 status. They'd immediately own the area north of Oklahoma and West of the Mississippi R. all the way up until Denver, and Idaho. They'd cut into the Twolves and Bulls geographic Iowa fanbase but the upper plains can support a team on its own.

I could also see San Jose/South Bay getting a team. There's a million people in San Jose proper and enough corporate support. The Warriors would block that scenario as much as they could.

Darkhorse cities could be El Paso, ABQ, Honolulu, or KC.

why are the pelicans being mentioned? they are owned by the same people who own the saints. And after Benson dies they will still be owned by the same people, so no you can rule the Pelicans out.

My guess is the Kings. Why does Sacramento have a team anyway?

Metro area of 2.5 million. Doesn't have to compete with college sports. Largest passenger rail hub east of the MS river.

I wouldn't argue against other cities like Seattle, SD, STL, and Pittsburg being more deserving, but Sac is a legit and under-rated metro area. Over-shadowed by the Bay Area.

They have a marketing problem, IMO. Still better than Atlanta, I guess.

My guess is that the league will go with 31 teams for a while (move Minnesota to the Eastern Conference when Seattle is added).

But if there were a city #32, perhaps Newark?

Not sure if serious, Sprint. NBA-ready arena, but can Columbians support a team? Do they want one? I'm guessing the place is crawling with James jerseys.

Columbus

The Mayor of Columbus has expressed and sent his desire to land an NBA franchise in the city to the commisioners office multiple times. Columbus is the 15th largest city in America at well over 800k and growing faster then any city in the Midwest. Columbus would own the Columbus/Cincinnati/Dayton market which is significant!! Columbus is a legit darkhorse candidate.

Having said that, i would love for the NBA to go to a mid-sized market that doesnt have a proffessional franchise. I think more single sport cities would make for better attendance and a closer connection with fans/players in all pro sports....like Green Bay. So if they were ever to go that route i think interesting options could be:

Las Vegas
Boise
Omaha
Albuquerque

Yea the city would love a NBA team. Instant rivalry with Cleveland and Indy.

There will be a shite load of cavs fans here with LeBron back, but he won't be there forever. Not like new franchises happen overnight.

Such an awesome blueprint. Land a top ten player +the second best player= profit

There are already too many teams in the NBA.

If they really want to improve their product, contract a few teams.

And if the league wants to put a team in Seattle (not sure if they do or don't), move the Clippers there- Los Angeles does NOT need 2 basketball teams.

Austin could hold a new NBA team. I think UT would block them though

H) Contract; there are already way to many shitty players in the league already.
