Ditto for Tony Soprano

Read all about this after James Gandolfini's death last year... The Sopranos was the first show to really get the audience to cheer for the evil character. Tony Soprano opened the door for Walter White, etc.

I always root for the bad guy in the CSI/NCIS franchise because the heroes are such insufferable douchebags.

By blurring the lines of the "good people" on the show or creating motives that we can relate to.

Breaking Bad and the Sopranos are the perfect example of this.

Outside of fricking his sister....not really a bad guy.

He's actually the opposite of this through season 1, he is a victim of perspective because the Starks mold how you view him and don't get his side of the stories

It's pretty easy really. We have have our flaws/evil side. We identify with characters who are also flawed. We think to ourselves: well, at least I'm not THAT bad.

tell the story from their POV.

plus, I love the crime/gangster genre so that helps me pull for the dude rising to power.

There's the whole attempting to kill a 12 year old boy thing, but other than that he's a super guy.

He pushed a kid out of a window, and he's generally a douche in the first 2 seasons.

If he doesn't push Bran, Bran tells his dad who tells Robert who then tortures Jaime, Cersei, and the children without mercy, then kills them. Then he starts a war with West and Tywin. I'd say Jaime made the right call.

It was a good thing for Bran too, otherwise he would have ended up at Joffrey's mercy in King's Landing.

Just about anybody on The Wire sans Lester.

Seriously though, it'll make you root for a murderous drug dealer in Omar and a heroin addict in Bubbles.

If he didn't push Bran out the window and spared him, what would the most likely result be? Robert would kill him, his lover, all of his children, and probably also kill his brother and declare war on his father. Thousands would die if Bran reported the information he did, while only one would if it looked like he died from an accident. You would have done the exact same thing in his scenario.

And Jaime was only a dick to Ned and his captors. Why should he be nice to Ned who only has the lowest opinion of him of any man alive and to his captors who treat him like shite? Jaime's true personality doesn't show until he's free from them. He's a realist and sees the world as it is, and will act accordingly to his realistic worldview.

Adam Carolla had a rant on this once about how if you did a movie on Hitler from his POV people would root for him....at least till he got to Poland.
