I just don't understand the ethical perspective.

Insects and plants are living things too.

I've been a vegetarian for 7-8 years. It's not hard at all. The idea of eating the cooked insides of an animal that was once living is just not appealing to me.

I am not opposed to eating meat but I do have some problems with our factory farm system.

But are the mechanisms really that much different than with plants? Could you imagine harvesting pig the way you would harvest corn? I just find the argument slightly odd.

Animal farming is the best thing to ever happen to those species. Cows outnumber us, live in easy paradise, fat and happy, isolated from brutal survivalistic nature, and then we spare them the agony of old age

You're welcome, cows.

I work in a restaurant part time and the gluten free crowd is far more annoying than the vegan crowd

I had a lady say she was on a gluten free diet one time. I said OK and she proceeded to order a cheeseburger. It came out and she flipped her shite wanting to talk to a manager. Why? Because it came with a bun. Not only did she say "NO BUN" when ordering it, but she expected me to automatically know this. She flipped out at me and our manager and our manager was running back and forth from the kitchen trying to satisfy her, but kept getting sent back because of "cross contaminiation". Finally the lady stormed out and left without paying.

I also got stiffed another time because I "Learn more about gluten allergies!" was written on the receipt.

Somewhat. I almost never eat read meat. Fish regularly, chicken once in a great while. Partly ethical, but mostly because I've never liked the taste of beef. The finest steak at Ruth Chris is meh to me. My BP is on the low side of normal, but it always has been, so I don't necessarily attribute it to diet.

We started off eating vegetarian on day a week and found we really enjoyed some of the new recipes we were trying. Over a few months time we began eating more and more vegetarian meals until we decided to try it for a month straight.

I used to work in a restaurant as well. Had a guy come in one night making absolutely sure everyone in the place knew about his gluten allergy. Made it a point to tell the server not to bring any bread to anyone at his table. Then he ordered mashed potatoes *and gravy* with his steak. Then ordered seconds on the mashed potatoes *and gravy*. Never asked how we made the gravy and blew off the server when she tried to tell him.
