In the past we have been a smash mouth team that would grind out teams and finish them off in the second half. Ball control, minimize mistakes, and rely on a suffocating defense to provide good field position.

With Cam Cameron on board, we appear to be moving to a quick strike offense with better athletes and schemes than the majority of our opponents. Mobile qb's, 5 star backs, and wide receivers that dont appear to need a redshirt year to big ready for prime time.

With the addition of Jeff Grimes, I think the last piece of the puzzle has been set. If we can keep this core of offensive coaches for a while, I believe we will be better known for our offensive exploits more than our relentless defenses. I love some defense but this will be a welcomed change. Its going to be fun to watch our offense for the foreseeable future.

Any thoughts to add on the subject?

I don't think it's changing. It will always be primarily smashmouth as long as CLM is here.

I think it's just that smashmouth works a lot better with legit WR and mobile QB threats to take defenders out of the box.

LSU will always be a smash mouth team as long as Miles is here. Cameron has said as much.

LSU is going to run the ball a ton this year.
I'd put the over/under pass attempts against Wisconsin at 20.

The only thing I am afraid of is being so effective on offense that we tire defense. If the D is not getting their time on the bench then I am afraid that a late game 3 and out by our offense could be trouble for our tired D. On the other hand, Cam seems to know all about offensive game management and Chief is great at player rotation in games, so maybe I'm worried for no reason.

To that point, it will never stop bugging me that we wasted Jarvis Landry's freshman year on special teams. I think that he could have been a huge asset in the 2011 season. Especially on January 9th.

You are unbelievably stupid if you believe this.

These same exact things could have been said in '09, '10, '11. LSU was more "open" last season because they had a Sr. QB and two proven top flight WRs. The best offense is the one that best fits your personnel. Last year the passing game clicked because of those skill guys. This year it looks like LSU is better suited to have a power ground game. As long as Les Miles is here LSU is going to be dedicated to running the football.

Eh. We've pretty much always had better athletes than most of our opponents. That hasn't changed.

We will still be about this. Especially this year.

We were definitely a fantastic offense last year, but look at the players we had. Hopefully this will continue for the foreseeable future with the talent we have locked in on that side of the ball.

To a degree but Cam has always run the rock effectively. It's his bread-and-butter too.

LSU had an average defense and a very good QB/RB/WR tandem last year. Arguably the best.
The offense took control of some games which was the best way to win the game last year. I think LSU wants to be a ball control, play great defense team in theory. 65/35% type stuff, at least preferably. But will always look to take what the defense gives them, Cam will demand this.

There is no crime putting 50 on someone if u can. But when u play against the best in the SEC controlling the game is "still" the best way to win. Not likely your offense is going to run up and down the field no matter how many pro prospects u have. You will need to be prepared for these types of games to win them.

I think LSU has always aimed for a pro-style offense, where the run game sets up the passing attack. It worked well last year with two great WR's, a big-armed QB, and bruising backs. They'll surely scale that back this year, particularly early on until these young guys show what they can do, but that goal remains the same imo. Pound the rock to open up some downfield shots.

Harris appears to throw a better long ball, so that may ultimately get him some playing time. LF looks to be a beast from day 1, and while the WR corp is young and untested, they are fast enough to be deep threats.

All really depends on the youngsters and how soon they're able to impact the offense.

prepare for consecutive 3000 yard passing seasons. Like others say, it will be still smash mouth but Cam loves downfield passing. We can reach 3000 yards in as little as 295 attempts in this kind of system.

We can run the ball 44 times a game, pass 25 times a game, and still be completely balanced.

Because we hid our QB's since we haven't had one for 4+ years until Mett arrived.

This.
Not going to take chances w/O play calling. If they open it up, it'll be a slow transformation.

The only game we weren't ground and pound was Georgia and that's because they shut the running game down early. I'm glad we weren't stubborn and show that we can run and gotten behind.

2005-2007 featured plenty of talent. This is not some new phenomenon. Lsu chucked the ball so much last year because the defense was terrible.

I think we will know a lot more after the Wisconsin game. They (historically) are a ball control offense and they have two proven bad arse running backs. If LSU is not changing their stripes, Coach Miles will grind it out to keep them off the field and protect his young QB; otherwise he will air it out while screaming "have a great day!" and clapping like a retard.

What do you think it will be?
