They last way longer. They look better. They are more durable.
I wouldn't reroof over existing shingles b/c of the heat and weight factor.
ETA: also, it may void the warranty on the new shingles. ( not that sorry-arse shingle manufacturers ever warranty their product anyway. They may as well give 100 year warranties, they're like crime, they don't pay, but I digress...)

Yes they look way better, are a much higher quality shingle, and come with better warranties. I know a lot of messicans
