Whatever you do don't buy from a place like Lowe's. I've read that they don't build them the same for Lowe's as they do if you buy them at a legit John Deer/Kubota place. Just be sure to tell them your acreage when you're buying. They should be bought based off that acreage.

I would spend the extra and get the best quality product you can afford without compromising other bills. Just like, my opinion. Man.

When you need service you are going to regret saving a couple of hundred bucks at big box store.

Buy from a local dealer that will service your mower.

Now if you do all your own repairs then save the bucks

You cannot compare the cadets and deeres made 10-15 years ago with stuff day- MTD Is making most of the mowers and parts for the ones they do not make

But back to the 3-4 acres you need 50 inch or more cut and 22 or more HP-

I think this is a myth. Identical models will be the same machine at Lowes or local dealer. Lowes only carries entry level/low end models. A local dealer would likely explain the advantages to getting a mid or high end model, which he carries and Lowes doesn't.

Hrm.. well, that does make a LOT of sense actually. Combine that with the fact that the average Joe that buys an entry level machine from Lowe's is going to want Lowe's to handle all of his problems... which probably leads to a lot of frustration when it's likely manufacturing warranties that apply. Good to know! Thanks.

Posted by CBLSU316 My folks mow about 4acres........just bought a JD 60" cut with Kawasaki motor. I think it was about 6k at the JD store..........sounds like you want a cheaper one. Takes them about 1:30 to know it........used to take 3hrs on a traditional mower.

My old man did the same thing wit the same mower. It was taking him 3+ with. 48" cub cadet. Now he can do it in less than 1.5 hours. He swears you cannot drive the John Deere wide open because it is too fast. I think he bought it used at the dealer as a trade in because the same guy gets a new one every year for his business.
