I'd like to see it, but I it's not coming to Lafayette and after your post, I'm not motivated to drive to New Orleans to see it.

Good movie. Very Linklater. Gets better as it goes along and the kid grows up. I thought it was a pretty great achievement in filmmaking, while not being the best movie. Parts of it drag and jump, but I would say it is more than worth seeing.

I was able to catch it this afternoon. Pretty solid flick. Not the best thing I've ever seen, but it was solid. You were really able to connect with the characters as they aged. Not something I've experienced before. I think for that alone it is worth the watch. Also pretty identifiable if you were artsy in high school.

agree with all of this. it was really an amazing achievement in filmmaking, and is a very good, but not great movie. i don't think I've ever felt a connection to any character in a movie as i did for the "boy''. the lack of plot held it back from being a great movie. i was slightly let down as a lot of the reviews were praising it as an all time great movie, which in all honesty it was far from.

It has no plot? What did they do for 12 years?

The plot is growing up from 6 to 18. Sort of vingettes on each year with a few continuous aspects.

I get the feeling that I'll be disappointed that they didn't do more with it.

I found right when I found myself thinking it was dragging, it would turn a corner and pick back up. Happened a couple times. When it was over, I thought to myself that I could keep watching Mason go on.

Saw it last night. Pretty cool watching the characters age like that. It had a few slow points. Really didn't like Mason towards the end, his dialogue got a little stale and cliche. All in all though I REALLY enjoyed it.

I do wish they would have started showing it earlier than 8:30 though

i'm wondering if Boyhood would still get the same overwhelmingly positive reviews if it was only filmed in 1 year, with 4 or 5 different actors playing mason at various times in his life, and with ethan hawk and patricia arquette aging via makeup.

the more i think about it, the more i realize that i enjoyed boyhood for the technical accomplishments and the concept of the movie rather than the movie itself.

Completed agree, the movie was boring for the most part. The kids actual turned out to be pretty decent. The mom was smart enough to get away when she had to.

I wasn't bored for a minute.

The mom's life choices provided enough drama to keep it from being a reality show about an average kid.

The growth of the mom and dad were just as interesting as the kid's life, if not more interesting.

It will show up in Baton Rouge at the AMC on O'Neil... I'll go see it and there'll be three other people in the theater... and then it'll be gone in a week.

Like Nebraska (except my wife and I were the only ones in the theater for Nebraska).

I pegged it pretty close. There were four other people in the theater with us.

And the movie features a great cameo by an actor/character from Dazed and Confused.
