Is there a way to replace the HDMI ports on a TV?

I'm down to 1 functioning HDMI ports out of three on my main TV. Can the ports be replaced? Should I just take it to a repairman. If it is a fairly easy fix, I'll do it myself.

Depending on situation/model but there are tv repair people that can do that. Not sure depending on model and how it was built if you can do it yourself.
But a last resort could be a HDMI switcher. Basically like a cable splitter but for HDMI. Many of them detect which device is on and automatically passes that signal. They have remotes etc. Maybe a stop gap measure till you figure out a fix.

Was looking into one of these.
Is it common for ports to go bad? TV is a Vizio and probably about 4 years old.

Not to my knowledge. Doesn't mean there wasn't a defect or bad part(s).

I lost all of the HDMIs on my Vizio after a lightning strike. Everything else still works perfectly.

In that case your solution is to get a new TV.

HDMI ports are connected to the TV's PCB via individually soldered pins. Replacing the port would obviously require removal of the entire back housing, as well desoldering and soldering skills. If you examine the soldered pins on the port and notice none that are obviously damaged or loose, the issue is probably with one or more HDMI controller chips that would need to be changed out. Not worth doing if not under warranty.

Open it up and see which board it's on. You can order them online. I paid 100 bucks for a new main board which had new hdmi ports cuz the old got zapped by lightning. Tv cost 300 new so it was worth it. Was 32" vizio. Piece of cake to change. If you have to call somebody else it's not worth it.
